Pendleton County and Pocahontas
County schools are both running two
hours late today.

Those allegations have now
turned into criminal charges in the
small Southwest Virginia town of
Appalachia.
The mayor and 13 others were
indicted today by a Wise County grand
jury.

instances of illegal tampering with
absentee ballots in 2004. Nearly 20
percent of the 585 votes cast in the

car window could soon cost you.

The state Senate is considering a
bill that adds cigarette "remnants" to
the list of items that are illegal to
throw out of a car.
Anyone caught doing so could face
a fine of 250- to 25- hundred bucks and
up to a year in jail.
Roanoke Delegate William Fralin
believes the bill will help make it
clear to citizens, police and judges
that cigarette butts are litter.

decrease.

August 21 The Senate Education and Health
Committee yesterday approved a measure
that would make students less dependent
on brand new textbooks each year,
boosting the market for less expensive
books.
The bill, which already passed
the House, will go to the full Senate
next week.

home for all of Virginia's child
support questions.

City officials announced
yesterday afternoon that Tier
Technologies would be taking over the
old Tultex building and setting up a
Child Support call center.
Tier has been contracted through
the Virginia Department of Social
Services to assist families who pay
child support.
Tier brings with it 77 new jobs
and three-point-one million dollars in
capital investment to Martinsville.
The company is expected to open
this May.

Western Virginia say they are NOT
considering a proposal to put their new
museum on Mill Mountain.

the building to fit a specific site in
downtown Roanoke, and the museum hopes
to begin construction there within the
next several weeks.
Center in the Square Board
Chairman Tom Brock has floated the idea
of moving the new museum in discussions
with a number of local leaders.
But a museum spokeswoman, and
others close to the project say there
are no plans to choose a new site.

In its first couple of months,
the Boys & Girls Club of Lynchburg is
seeing tremendous success in serving
inner city kids after school.
It's the first such club in the
Hill City, and organizers hope to
expand.
They're trying to raise about
25-thousand dollars to renovate
additional space in their building and
hire more staff.

GRAPHIC=Chris Jamison Attorneys are debating the mental
health of a Roanoke County teenager
accused of killing his grandmother.

Christopher Sterling Jamison was
in court yesterday, as attorneys
considered who should evaluate his
mental state- -both now and at the time
of the crime last November.
County detectives say Jamison
admitted he took the biggest knife he
could find and stabbed the woman who
raised him... first in the back, then
15 times in the chest.
He couldn't exactly explain why,
except to say he'd "kind of hated her"
his whole life.
Jamison's lawyer says the boy
had been under the care and treatment
of a psychologist for depression for
four months before the murder.
She wants to know whether he's
mentally ill.
The 6-foot tall 14-year old
remains in custody with trial SCHEDULED
later this month.

Then Wednesday night...Coach
Greenberg flung his jacket on the floor
after getting mad about a call.
He then threw towel on the floor.
After the referee called a
technical, Greenberg pounded on the
scorer's table.
Virginia Tech's Senior Associate
Athletic Director, Dave Chambers told
News 7 by phone "Getting upset and
being angry are part of the game, and
we know that. We expect our coaches to
conduct themselves in a first class
manner."

Virginia's 74- billion- dollar two-
year budget.
All agree funding for
transportation will be the major
sticking point.
Using taxes and fees, the Senate
plan raises nearly four- billion-
dollars over the next four years.
Meanwhile the House plan raises
about two- billion- relying on debt and
money from the general fund.
