phone bandit.

bandit" has been sentenced to 12 years
in prison for her role in
four bank robberies in northern
Virginia.
Candice Martinez gained notoriety
after one of last year's robberies was
captured on camera.

chatting on her cell phone, while a
teller complied with typed instructions
demanding cash.
U-S District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee
sentenced Martinez to five
years on the charge of conspiracy to
commit bank robbery, and seven
years on a firearms charge.

Rover left a huge hole in the building.
Police are looking for the driver of
the S-U-V, who fled the scene.

Range Rover, and towed it away for
inspection.

of a New River Valley pain doctor this
week.

court, agents searched Doctor Linda
Cheek's practice in Dublin on Tuesday.
The search was about Medicare and
Medicaid fraud.
Investigators allege
prescriptions were written while Doctor
Cheek was not present and in some cases

They also say two nurse
practitioners were using Doctor Cheek's
medicare provider number.
In a statement, Cheek says she
believes the real agenda is to shut
down her pain management practice.
Charlene Fields was injured in a
car accident and takes pain medication
for her back. She's been a patient of
Dr. Cheek since June.

"Bunkie" Blackburn has died.
Blackburn drove in the Grand
National and NASCAR circuits from the
late 1950's to the early 1970's for
teams run by Smokey Yunick and Petty
Enterprises.
He had four top- five's and 14
top- 10's in the Grand National series.
The Permatex 300 at Daytona in
19-68, was his top finish.
The died in Columbia, Tennessee,
where he lived.
He was 69-years-old.

Wednesday night.
GRAPHIC=IKE WHITAKER Ike Whitaker, who was redshirted
this past season, has been charged
with the purchase and possession of
alcohol.
Whitaker won't even turn 19 until
this coming June.
He has a date in Montgomery
County General district court on March
23rd to answer the misdemeanor charge.
Whitaker was expected to
challenge for the starting quarterback
position this spring for the Hokies.
But he was suspended indefinitely
by head coach Frank Beamer.

scheduled to open in July.
Next winter it'll serve as home
to the UVA's men's and women's
basketball teams.
But it's also designed to be a
state- of- the- art entertainment
complex.
There is word that the Dave
Matthews Band will headline the grand
opening of the 16- thousand seat arena
on September 22nd and 23rd.
The band, which got its start in
Charlottesville, played at Scott
Stadium in 2001.
