arrest tonight- for a string of church
fires in Alabama.. 9 different churches
were intentionally set on fire- and as
Michael Weber reports, setting the
fires apparently started out as a joke.

wrong. That's what 3 suspects arrested
for setting fire to 9 churches in
Alabama are ( said to be) claiming.

"Today Alabama and all its church going
organziations can rest a little
easier."
Two of the men- 19 year olds Ben
Moseley and Russell Debusk Jr. were
picked up in their dorm rooms at
Birmingham-Southern College. They were
brought to the Birgmingham Federal
Courthouse this morning and are being
held on arson charges . A third
suspect, Matthew Cloyd was arrested
later in the day.
Police believe the men went on
something of a joyride. Driving around
and setting the churches ablaze.
Later setting separate fires in the
western part of the state as a
diversion. ..to lead the police astray.

"After they lit the first 2 fires in
Bibb County, they saw the firetruck
lights, then it became too spontaneous
that's in the complaint that's
indicative of excitiment, thrill
motive."
Authorities do not think race was an
issue since these churches consisted of
both black and white congregations.
All the churches were Baptist, and the
fires were all believed to be set on
the alter . Other than that, there
doesn't seem to be any sort of pattern.
All told, 5 of the churches were
completely destroyed and four were
damaged. There have been reports that
tire tracks left at the scene gave
police the evidence they needed.
A 10th church fire, has been ruled
arson but is not believed to be

burned in an industrial accident.

an explosion occurred -showering him in
chemicals.
At one point, doctors at the UVA

While, they *weren't* ready to
sit down and talk on camera - Greg is
home and doing as well as can be
expected.
In the meantime, after his
accident last year- Roanoke city first
responders changed how they deal with
chemical cases.

third and fourth degree burns to more
than 60-percent of his body.
To add insult to injury- the family

Martinsville have the Girls beat by 1
games as the Bulldogs and Bengals will
meet for the the 5th time this season.
It maybe hard for these 2 teams to top
there past couple of meetings

The other local team playing for
a title is Floyd County, the Lady
Buffalos Thursday at 6 o'clock against
Gate City who comes in with a 24 and 4
record. The Rest of the State
Tournament is being played at the
Seigel Center in Richmond.
On Friday Night at 6 is when
Hidden Valley and Lord Botetourt will
play for the 4th time. Botetourt lost
in the State Finals a year ago.
The Night-cap on Friday Night is
Martinsville and Bassett with Tip
scheduled for 7:30. The winner earns a
berth in the State Finals on Saturday
Night.
