near Tower Shopping Mall in Roanoke
have been finalized.

V-Dot will spend two million
dollars on improvements on Colonial
Avenue near Wonju Street.

They include widening parts of
Colonial Avenue, adjusting the traffic
signals, and limiting left turn acess
to and from Colonial onto 23rd Street.

The state will also install a
traffic light at the corner of 23rd and
Brandon Avenue.

Construction is expected to begin
this fall and should be completed by
next spring.

Walton's mental state has been
debated since his trial and

three days before he was to be put to
death in May 2003, defense

lawyers won a temporary stay.

In a 7 to 6 ruling, a federal
court denied claims that Walton is
mentally retarded and insane.

He can still appeal to the U-S
Supreme Court.

taken a turn in Southwest Virginia.

often made with homemade chemicals.

Meth exploded into Southwest
Virginia a few years ago.

People were making it in their
homes and police were busting those
labs left and right.

But now the number of labs police
are finding has dropped off
dramatically.

Police say most of the Meth is
being imported from Mexico.

In fact, the amount of meth
seized over the last two years has
tripled.

Police say they are now shifting
their focus onto stopping the drug from
being smuggled into the region.

girl for a sexual encounter will have

lawyer for 29-year-old Christopher
Nester.

The suspect has enough money that
he doesn't qualify for court-appointed
counsel.

Nester faces three felony charges
of using a computer to solicit a child.

An undercover police agent posing
as a 14 year old girl says he talked to
Nester over the internet.

The two agreed to meet at an
abandoned building on Route 460.

When Nester showed up, he was
arrested.

GRAPHIC=Forest Fire A Bedford County man, who caused


a forest fire, faces prosecution and
may have to reimburse authorities for
the cost.

But a News 7 poll conducted by
Survey USA suggests the public is
opposed to criminal charges in such
cases.

who accidentally starts a forest fire
should have to repay the government, 49
percent said no, while 45 percent said
yes.

But when they were asked if
someone who accidentally starts a
forest fire should face criminal
charges? 58 percent said no.

the forest fire in Bedford County are
now concentrating on restoring the fire

After finding evidence at the
scene -investigators tracked the two
men and a woman to a Troutville motel.

One of the men, 36-year-old
Robert Whiting tried to get a way by
crawling through the ceiling tiles,
after breaking through two room
partitions, he came crashing down into
a neighboring room.

Whiting and 25-year-old Duane
Wise face several charges including
breaking and entering.
