In the last two years, 20 pedestrians
have been hit by cars in the town of
Blacksburg.

On Virginia Tech's campus, the number
is ten.

In response, the university put in a
roundabout to slow traffic down near a
busy intersection.

Several crosswalks were also
repainted with brighter colors.
There's even a message on the roadway
alerting drivers to look for
pedestrians.

trying to figure out who broke in and
stole five brand new computers from
Back Creek elementary school Friday
night.

first thing Saturday morning.

Vandals had gotten in through a
back door, destroyed security cameras
and did some DAMAGE to one computer.

Board of Supervisors tonight.

Northern Virginia ends with the suspect
shot dead by a sheriff's deputy.

Deputies believe the man was
trying to rob the store... and ended up
taking a woman hostage.

Around 8:45 this evening, the
suspect and hostage came through the
door and a sheriff's deputy fired one

The woman laid on the ground

until authorities secured the area.

Police say she has

some superficial wounds but is not
seriously hurt.

This July, the county will open
its new Smith Mountain Lake community
park.

The 37-acre park will feature a
playground, fishing pier, picnic area
and eventually a beach.

The project has been in the works
for the past 10-years, but has been
slowed largely because of funding.

finally make it happen.

John Chaney's announced his
retirement from Temple today.

He coached the Owls for 24 seasons and
won the National Coach of the year
award twice.

Chaney has led Temple to the
N-C-A-A Tournament 17 times but for the
last five season the Owls have been in
the NIT.

Chaney is 74 years old and his
team takes on Akron, tomorrow Night in
an opening round N-I-T game, but he

will not coach it due his wife's poor
health.

Black has coached for 23 years

Franklin County's girls into a state

300 games and the Civitan Sportsmanship
award in 2001.
