a fatal boating accident at Smith
Mountain Lake will remain in Bedford
County, for now.

VO-NAT Larry and Judi Lewis were both
killed last August when a speedboat
toppled their cabin cruiser.
*CG locator Bedford Co. Yesterday, attorneys for the man
charged, Mark de Tournillon
DEE-tour-neon, argued for a change of
venue, saying the case received too
much pre-trial publicity.
And they say most of it has been
negative toward their client.
The judge ruled the court should
at least TRY to select a jury in
Bedford County, but warned if it became
a problem, he may reconsider the change
of venue.

some local troops in the Middle East
this week.

Governor Tim Kaine left Sunday
night on a trip to visit local troops
serving in Iraq.
It's a trip designed to help
improve communication between governors
and the Department of Defense.
Kaine has already received phone

Overall, he says morale seems
high.

methadone clinic.

Pennsylvania has re-applied to open a
clinic in town on Davis Street.
A-R-S wanted to open a methadone
clinic last year in the Colony Park
office complex.
That plan was derailed by a state

that has claimed thousands of dollars.

is logging onto this Virginia Tech
website that helps students find
renters for their apartments.

they send too much and ask for some of
it back.
Police say six students have been
scamed for a total of 12-thousand
dollars.
Virginia Tech's Off Campus
Housing office has posted a warning on
its website.
Officials say the scamers are not
targeting just Virginia Tech.
This is happening at colleges all
over the nation.

of a tractor trailer fire on Route 460
near Lynchburg yesterday afternoon.

tire blew out ... the driver told
police that's when his cab started to
catch fire.
The entire truck was destroyed
and firefighters had to scramble as the
fire spread onto an embankment.

New River Valley may soon become one.

The N-R-V District Planning
Commission is hoping to join the
Huckleberry Trail in Montgomery County
to the New River Trail in Pulaski
County.
That connection, a good 20 to 30
miles, would go through the Radford
area.
Planning commission members say
the trail connection is very
preliminary and could take several
years to accomplish.
