THEIR HANDS TIED.

to consider alternatives before
eliminating any magnet programs...
But today they also said they
have confidence in the process
administrators are using to evaluate
those schools.

File Tape Superintendent Marvin Thompson
initiated a review of the magnet
schools to make sure they are aligned
with state accreditation standards, and
to insure that benefits justify the
cost.
While the review has raised
concerns among magnet school
supporters, school board members say
they are satsified the study is not
simply an effort to dismantle magnet
programs.

Each of the schools will offer
their own recommendations, and Thompson
says they should know by the end of May
which programs will remain in place,
and which programs will be altered or
eliminated.
