As the war in Iraq enters its 4th
year....a major operation to attack
the insurgency pushes forward. But
while Iraqi and U-S troops are
hunting insurgents north of
Baghdad.....
(natz protesters)
....protests against the war are
heating up around the world.
Demonstrators were on the streets of
Manila in the Philippines this
morning...and over the weekend....
there were numerous anti-war rallies
across the U-S...including this one in
New York City.
(more natz)
In Washington, President Bush remains
optimistic despite the public
discontent.
sot: President Bush
"We are implementing a strategy that
will lead to victory in Iraq. And a
victory in Iraq will make this country
secure and will help lay the
foundation of peace for generations to
come."
But victory in Iraq will not come until
Sunnis and Shiites stop killing
each other. More than a dozen victims
of the sectarian violence were
found in Baghdad on Sunday...raising
the number of execution style
killings to over 100 in less than a
week.
sot: Iyad Allawi/former Iraqi Prime
Minister
"If this is not civil war then God
knows what civil war is."
(Coffey Standup bridge)
Back in the U-S, President Bush will be
in Cleveland today for a speech
on Iraq. The President also plans on
taking questions about his war
policy and other topics.
