(LOCATOR: ALEXANDRIA, VA)
With the sentencing trial of al-Qaida
conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui
resuming, the possibility of the death
penalty is back on the table.
Artist:William Hennessy Jr.
This comes after federal judge Leonie
Brinkema delayed the trial a week
when she discovered a government lawyer
made a big mistake.
That error could have led to Zacarias
getting a life sentence--something
that would not have sat well with the
families of the three-thousand
people killed on September 11th.
Prosecuting attorney Carla Martin
improperly coached six witnesses who
would have testified about aviation
related events.
(STANDUP: DREW LEVINSON/ALEXANDRIA, VA)
THOUGH THE JUDGE BARRED THOSE WITNESSES
FROM TESTIFYING, SHE WILL ALLOW
OTHER AVIATION WITNESSESSES WHO WERENT
QUOTETAINTED TO TAKE THE
STAND. THAT TESTIMONY IS CRUCIAL
BECAUSE IT REPRESENTS ABOUT HALF THE
GOVERNMENTS CASE AGAINST MOUSSAOUI.
(FILE OF ATTACKS)
Moussaou was arrested after raising
suspicions at a flight school and
pleaded guilty to knowing al-Qaidas
plans to fly planes into buildings.
Prosecutors are trying to prove that if
the so-called 20th hi-jacker had
not lied to the FBI when he was
arrested three weeks before September
11th, the attacks on New York and
Washington might have been thwarted
because airport security would have
been tightened.
The FBI agent who arrested Moussaoui is
back on the stand today as
defense attorneys cross- examine him.
Then attorney Carla martin is prepared
to tell her story.. An
explanation the defense says is
critical before any additional aviation
witnesses are permitted to testify.

:05 Organizers say about a dozen
hopefuls auditioned yesterday afternoon
to do the honors.
Whoever makes the cut will be
singing in front of what Avalanche
management hopes will be a packed
stadium.
The team has added new players
and new theme nights that they hope
will entice the crowds this year.
Opening day is April 6th.
