have been put at risk when an

Malathion, into the walls while the
kids were still in session at Dudley
Elementary School.
*not handled correctly, we should have
known, wouldn't have sent my children
to school had I known they were going
to do that.
But the school says it didn't know
either. The school system's Director of
Facilities says the exterminator
decided to use pesticide instead of
sticky traps without consulting the
school. Steven Oaks also says the
exterminator showed up early, instead
of after school, and the routine visit
didn't attract attention. But most
parents we spoke with were upset about
the pesticide but the greater issue was
what they call a lack of communication.
*i have no clue what's going on, what
to look for, what the symptoms are
*the first time I heard about this was
on the news, I wasn't notified, I'd
like to know what was going on.
Oaks says that's because last week,
their focus was sending letters out to
fourth and fifth grade parents since
that's the hall that was affected.
Now, the kids have been removed from
the area and test results are pending.
Oaks tells us he talked with a doctor
from the Department of Health who says
the symptoms are a lot like the flu.
BUT had the children been exposed, they
should have felt symptoms by the time
they left school.>>

It all started March seventh when an
exterminator injected malathion into
the walls of Dudley Elementary School.
It was done while the kids were
still in school, sparking a lot of
concern that the pesticide could have
affected the kids.
Letters were sent out alerting
parents, but only to parents of fourth
and fifth graders because that was the
hall affected. The decision to not send
letters to everyone had some parents
upset with how the situation was
handled.

This year nearly 700- fires have

The largest was the fire in

Foresters say their biggest
challenge, when helping with large
fires is communicating with local fire

That's because only 35- percent

Better communication is one of
