jmcleod@wdbj7.com Now, that may NOT sound like a lot
but some may think so when you consider
Virginia Tech has raised tuition the

last four years.

ENG#=3 VO-NAT

VO-NAT Take a look at the numbers.

In 2002 for example Virginia Tech
raised tuition by thirty percent.

That's significant when you consider
there were no tuition increases from
1995 to 2001.

Next year, a Virginia undergraduate
living on campus can expect to see an
increase of about 900 dollars. For out
of state students it's more than
15-hundred dollars.

So why all the tuition increases?

Virginia Tech blames it on the lack
of state funding.

Administrators point out the
university is getting 30 million
dollars less than it did in 2000.

LIVE=Justin Full/BAM LIVE FULL

As a result, Virginia Tech says
students can expect to see more tuition
increases in the future.

But the university also plans to
raise financial aid by more than one
and half million dollars.

Virginia Tech also has a program that
protects qualified students from
tuition increases.

DOUBLE BOXES=Natasha & Justin/BAM DOUBLE BOXES

Natasha, about 16-hundred in-state
students will benefit from that
program.

Question: With so many tuition
increases, some may wonder if Virginia
Tech is still a bargain?

Natasha, it's a good point.
According to the university, Virginia
Tech currently has the lowest overall
cost to attend any Virginia four year
public institution.

the Final Four, but it takes a woman to
get the job done.

More honors for JJ tonight, plus
the Dazzle loses another key player,
and we'll check in with Tech's Angela
Tincher.

The Carolina Panthers gave John
Fox a five-year contract extension
today, rewarding him for taking them

deep into the playoffs in two of the
last three seasons. His new deal will
keep him in Carolina through the 2010
season and pay him $5 million a season.
Fox has a 36-and-28 regular-season
record since taking over in Charlotte
after the 2001 season, but he has been
money when it counts - going 5-and-2
in the playoffs.

GRAPHIC=WOMEN'S FINAL FOUR We begin tonight with the women's

NCAA tournament where two things are
very different from the men's.

First, the upsets aren't nearly
as frequent and the ACC actually has at
least one team in the Final Four.

Before we get to the highlights -
take a look at something that really
hurts
