superintendent's paid leave of absence,
a majority of Roanoke County residents
have a problem with it.

VO-NAT Those are the latest findings of
a News 7 poll conducted by SurveyUSA.
It found 75-percent believe
Linda Weber should NOT be allowed to
take two months of paid leave.
When asked about Weber's
performance as superintendent, nearly
half said they disapprove.
Supporters of the
superintendent say that's unfair.

School Superintendent Linda Weber say
there's been too much negative and not
enough positive things said.

NO SUPER News-7/Survey USA poll shows 21 percent
of Roanoke County adults asked say the
schools are getting better, more than a
quarter say worse, and nearly a half
say they're about the same.
When asked whether they approve
of the job Linda Weber is doing as
superintendent, nearly half say they
disapprove, twenty two percent say they
approve, and nearly a third told us
they're not sure.

the problems of erosion, some local
high school students are doing
something about it.

About 40 Virginia Episcopal
School students spent the day planting
trees along this patch of land near
Horseley Creek in Amherst County.
The property owner had been
concerned about continuing erosion
along the stream banks.
State officials helped provide
about 130 saplings that eventually will
help keep the land from wearing away.

longer have to make a trip to Virginia
to play a lottery.

lottery yesterday morning, the last
East Coast state to endorse
state-sponsored gambling.
State officials expect the North
Carolina Lottery to raise 400 million
dollars in its first year for
education.
The money is targeted for
class-size reduction, school

is investigating the death of a four-
month- old child.
Rescue crews responded to a home
on Clearview Drive before three
Wednesday afternoon.
They found Brooklyn Faith
Williams unresponsive.
C-P-R was unsuccessful.
The baby-sitter of the child said
she tried to wake the child up after a
nap, but she was unresponsive and not
breathing.
The medical examiner's office in
Roanoke will perform an autopsy to
determine the cause of death.

Wednesday The Police Department says it
processed about four-thousand names
when preparing for this Operation, and
it is possible that Rae's name was put
on the list by mistake.
Police are encouraging anyone who
thinks their name was listed by
mistake, to call the Roanoke Police
Department's Warrant Service Unit.
As of yesterday, about 300 people
have been tracked down, including one
of those pictured at the top, a man who
failed to register as a sex offender.
