tonight in Roanoke County.

Officials received a call for a
fire in the 800-block of *Starmount
Avenue* around 8:30.

The fire caused some extensive
damage to the home and garage --
including three cars.

Four people were at the home when
the fire broke out -- but no one was
hurt.

It took firefighters about an
hour to get the fire under control.

The cause is under investigation.

jailor is in jail.

42-year-old Joe Randall Hinton of
Brosville, was arrested today for
Conspiring to Commit a Felony.

Authorities say he brought
*contraband* into the jail.

Hinton had been an employee with
the Sheriff's office since December
2003.

He was released under a
five-thousand dollar bond.

Authorities say they're not
releasing any more information because
it is a personnel matter.

reporting that Herb Sendek, the head
basketball coach at NC State has agreed

to become the new head man at Arizona
State. Sendek would get a hefty pay
raise with a deal worth in excess of a
million dollars a year. Sendek had a
record of 191 and 132 in 10 years with
the Pack. State had made the NCAA
tournament for five straight seasons,

Foundation. Troy Wells and company
spent nearly two hours taking donations
and handing out Nascar Day pins to race
fans. The third annual celebration of
the Nascar spirit is May 19th.


The Bulldogs raised more than 13
hundred dollars for the Foundation
which supports more than 25 motorsports
industry and driver charities including
the Victory Junction Gang.

The Hometown Heroes were treated
to a tour of the pits and the Nextel
Cup garage, then took some time to rub
elbows with Truck Series regular
Brendan Gaughan.

Gaughan, who has played pickup
with the Dogs in previous visits to
Martinsville, was a hoopster at
Georgetown where he roomed with NBA
star Allen Iverson. But the former
Hoya donned a different jersey after
being named an honorary Bulldog.

Finally, it was time for the
most famous words in racing,

Kroger 250 As for the race itself, check out :00 truck series points leader Mark Martin
rubbing the bumper of David Reutimann
for the pass on his way to a 4th place
finish.

The race was a wreck fest with 16
cautions but David Starr steered clear
of all the mess. Starr held the lead
on 8 different restarts to post his 4th
career Truck Series win. Ted Musgrave
was 2nd and Matt Crafton came home
third.

500. Emporia's Elliott Sadler was 13th
quickest.

Sadler currently sits 11th in
the points standings, just 8 points out

the chemistry he's developed with new
crew chief Tommy Baldwin, which could
translate into Sadler's first
Martinsville win Sunday.

their first scrimmage of the spring
practice session today. The defense
shined with 13 sacks. As for the
quarterbacks, Cory Holt was 6 of 12 for
46 yards and a pick. Sean Glennon went
7 of 11 for 44 yards.

Kenny Lewis tallied 68 yards
rushing and Macho Harris added 47 yards
on the ground. The team practices

Hundreds of children came to

Wasena park today for the annual
*Eggstravaganza.*

14-thousand eggs filled with
candy were laid out in the baseball
fields at the park.

It was first come, first served
-- as the children frantically
collected as many eggs as they could.

The event was formerly held
inside Victory Stadium, but in the last
two years has been forced to find a new
home.
