years, but residents say it's time for

many as 300 of these black vultures at
one time.
She says the birds usually come
around at night, but she's seen them
during other parts of the day as well.
And these buzzards are pretty
bold.
Johnson's neighbor, Larry Fox
called police about the problem, after
spotting them several of them on his
deck.

mid-March, but several brush fires have
burned up more than a hundred acres of
land since then.
Forest Warden David Cooper says
all four fires this March were started
by an arsonist.
The last one happened on this
hillside along Phillips Hollow Road.
Several acres were charred before
firefighters were able to put out the
fire.
Cooper says the largest brush
fire was started back on March 16-th.
It claimed about 100 acres of
land near Cole Mountain.

with the E-P-A for allegedly not
reporting a chlorine leak soon enough
last spring.
About two thousand pounds of
chlorine were released from the city's
wastewater treatment facility on May
17th.
The E-P-A says the city didn't
notify federal authorities until the
19th.
The citation could cost Lynchburg
more than 50-thousand dollars in
penalties.
The city has 30 days to respond.

open an overnight Summer camp on the
same site that housed The Wilderness
Leadership Academy.
The Academy was home to troubled
teens in the mid '90's.
It eventually closed, but not
before a counselor and several students

A proposal to allow children from 8 to
14-years of age is getting ready to go
before the county planning and zoning
department next Monday.
Most neighbors remember when the
Wilderness Leadership Academy called
this area home. They also remember the
trouble caused by a number of the
teens. Things like teens beating a
counselor and stealing his van, making
bombs and an attempted sexual assault.
While they wouldn't talk on camera
today they do say they're worried the
same thing could happen again.
But, the Sickels say that's not what
they're about..

than an hour on Interstate 81.

State Police say it happened early
this afternoon near Arcadia in
Botetourt County.
It's believed Wayne Houston of
Troutville fell asleep at the wheel.
State police tell us witnesses saw the
man thrown from his car but he hit a
soft spot of dirt and was coherent and
didn't appear to be seriously hurt.
Houston was airlifted to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital where he is listed in
good condition.
