FOR THE FIRST TIME SCIENTISTS HAVE

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY'S DOCTOR ANTHONY

TECHNIQUE.

HE TOOK A SMALL AMOUNT OF BLADDER

STARTING IN 19-99 THE NEW SECTIONS WERE
TRANSPLANTED INTO SEVEN PATIENTS WITH

WEAKENED OR DAMAGED BLADDERS.

THE ENTIRE ORGAN WASN'T REPLACED....
JUST A LARGE PART WAS.

FOR YEARS DOCTORS KEPT THE RESEARCH

"the patients had decreased bladder

component because these bladder
pressures would rise to the point where
they could cause kidney damage." :09

UNTIL TODAY ONLY SIMPLE TISSUES LIKE
SKIN, BONE AND CARTILAGE COULD BE GROWN

THIS NEW BREAKTHROUGH COULD EVENTUALLY

"currently we're working on several
other projects including regeneration

THERE IS A LONG WAY TO GO UNTIL THOSE
ORGANS ARE ENGINEERED.

AND STILL MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED
BEFORE THE BLADDER TRANSPLANT CAN BE
USED ON A WIDESPREAD BASIS.

HOWEVER, IT NOW LOOKS LIKE WE ARE WELL
ON OUR WAY.

scared of flying? Don't be, just look
out for your luggage.

And the nation's children are more

THE REPORT SHOWED AN OVERALL DECLINE IN
QUALITY OF SERVICE FROM THE AIRLINES.

IT COMPARED CATEGORIES LIKE ON-TIME

AND FOUND RESULTS FOR EVERY CATEGORY
WORSE THAN THE YEAR BEFORE. CUSTOMER

COMPLAINTS WERE UP BY 17-PERCENT.

AIRLINES TRANSPORTED MORE THAN 600

YEAR.

CHILDHOOD OBESITY IS A HEALTH THREAT

FOR SURE, BUT A SAFETY RISK?

RESEARCHERS AT THE CENTER FOR INJURY
RESEARCH AND POLICY SAY CHILDHOOD
OBESITY

MAY TAKE YEARS TO SOLVE, BUT LARGER
CHILD SAFETY SEATS ARE NEEDED NOW TO

ACCOMMODATE THE GROWING POPULATION OF
OVERWEIGHT KIDS.

ACCORDING TO THE CENTER, OBESITY RATES
FOR CHILDREN TWO TO FIVE YEARS OLD HAVE

DOUBLED IN THE LAST THIRTY YEARS AND
TRIPLED FOR CHILDREN SIX TO ELEVEN.

RATES WERE HIGHEST AMONG LOW INCOME
FAMILIES, WHO MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD

CUSTOMIZED CAR SEATS, PUTTING THOSE
CHILDREN AT INCREASED RISK OF INJURY.

FOR CONSUMER WATCH, I'M ANDY FLICK.
