GRAPHIC=House Fire Crews in Franklin County were
busy this morning after a fire
destroyed a home and sparked several
brushfires.

Wickline Lane which is just off Burnt
Chimney Road.
Units from Bedford, Glade Hill,
and Scruggs also assisted with the
fire.
No injuries have been reported.
The flames from the house fire
sparked several brush fires in the
area.
Firefighters quickly
extinginuished two of them.
The windy conditions drove the
flames of the third brush fire up a
hill behind the house.
Crews are working to get ahead of
the fire.

Tech student continues this morning.

VO-NAT 19 year-old Christopher Andrew
Bell was last seen by his roommate at
his Tech dorm around one a-m Monday.

is a member of the Corps of Cadets and
missed morning muster for the past
several days...something that is highly
unusual for a cadet.
Bell also withdrew a significant
amount of money from his bank account
over the weekend.
University officials say he has
not contacted family or friends and
does not have any history of trouble.

string of convenience store robberies
in Pulaski County.

Police arrested 19 year old
Matthew Scott Dillon of Dublin this
week.
So far, Dillon has been charged
with one count of armed robbery and a
firearms charge.

for a total of four armed robberies and
possibly several car thefts.
The crimes happened between
December and March in Pulaski, Pulaski
County, Fairlawn and Radford.
Dillon is being held at the New

housing development in Mt. Pleasant.

homes, a secluded community that
planners say will preserve the natural
contours of the land.

But last night, residents of the
area raised concern about the project's
impact on traffic, taxes, and the rural
nature of the Mt. Pleasant community.
The planning commission did
reject it, but the proposal still goes
to the Roanoke County supervisors later
this month.
And they are not bound by the
planning commission's vote.

due to a new fee proposed by the
Virginia Senate.

putting a six-cent fee on every gallon
of gas pumped out of Virginia's
terminals.
Money generated would be used to
improve transportation.
Supporters say the fee would be

expected-- even though construction on
the new Art Museum of Western Virginia
won't begin for another four to six
weeks.

The president of the Art Museum
board also revealed the new 81-thousand
square foot museum will cost an
estimated 66-million dollars.
That's 20-million dollars more
than estimates given just two-months
ago.
46-million has already been
raised and money is still coming in.
Rising material costs are being
blamed for raising the cost of the
project.
The executive director says while
the costs of the project are high, the
benefits for the community will be the
big pay off.

Tailgate Party rug.
It fits the tailgate of trucks
and shows off the event with a logo.
Former longtime Delegate Benny
Keister is even an investor on the
idea.
Keister and company are rolling
out the rugs this weekend at the New
River Valley Mall.
The rugs are 30 dollars and will
be on sale all day on Saturday.

GRAPHIC=Indictment Officials are accusing a
suspect in Southwest Virginia of trying
to cover up a woman's death.
A federal grand jury yesterday
indicted 35-year-old Mark Jason Parris
of Glade Springs in an alleged drug
conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
The government says Parris
provided drugs to 28-year-old Stacy
McCray, then disposed of her body to
cover up the fact that his drugs were
in her body.
Her skeletal remains were
found in the Jefferson National Forest
near Chilhowie in 2002.
Parris is NOT charged with
killing her.

behind bars, but the man who struck and
killed a Montgomery County mother and
daughter will also have to pay
2-point-3 million dollars.

File Tape A civil jury issued the judgment
against 22 year old Christopher Hight
late yesterday afternoon.
Hight is already serving a nearly
four year prison sentence for killing
44 year old Joyce Marie Sirry and her 6
year old daughter, Betty Marie.
The pair were walking along route
460 in Shawsville when Hight hit them
with his car.

sale.

continue to manage Berry Hill Resort.
The hotel and conference center is
currently expanding its staff, and
expects April to be its busiest month
yet.
Since last summer, Berry Hill has

at the facility.
