15-hundred customers are still without
power in Virginia.

Seven hundred of those are in the
Roanoke Lynchburg area.

550 in the New River Valley.

The rest are scattered.

and rescue crews out for most of the

Rescue personnel say the driver
of this vehicle escaped injury after a
tree limb fell on his truck off route

packed some impressive lightning, and
strong winds -- bringing down power
lines, and in some cases the live wires
started small brush fires.

The National Weather service is still
trying determine whether it was a
tornado or just severe storms that
ripped through parts of Kentucky.

Authorities say it does appear that a
tornado struck at least two homes. No
one was inside at the time but the
damage was extensive.

in an accidental shooting that killed a
State trooper from Bath County has been
charged with murder.

VO-NAT 27-year-old Kevin Manion was

killed in February when a rifle
discharged in the back seat of a
suspects truck.

Virginia was indicted on murder,
burglary, drunken driving and weapons
charges.

broke into his boss' home near
Winchester, stole the rifle, got drunk
and smoked marijuana, then decided to
return the gun.

But he wrecked his pickup.

Trooper Manion responded to
the accident and was shot when the
stolen gun went off as the truck was
being moved.

of shooting their roommate to death.

Authorities got the call early Friday
morning to a home on Wolf Creek Road
just outside of Narrows.

Friday Morning Authorities say 35-year-old
Curtis Morgan Horne was shot once in
the head and killed with a 38 caliber
weapon.

It happened at the home the
victim shared with the two suspects.

Police charged Andy Ray McKinney,
seen here in the red shirt, and 21 year
old Jarret Lee Clarke, in the blue
shirt, with first degree murder.

Investigators believe Clarke was
the triggerman.

down for a teenager who raped, robbed
and nearly killed an elderly woman last
spring -- but he won't serve all of it.

VO-NAT 18-year-old Shay William Ward

pleaded guilty to the attack on the
68-year-old woman in her Leesville Road
home last May.

A judge yesterday gave him 131
years in prison, with 100 of that
suspended.

Ward still faces sentencing for
two other burglaries in the same

neighborhood, but in Campbell County.

The east isn't the only place
with extreme weather. This week has
been marked by wild weather in the west
as well, causing problems from Utah to

California.

VO NAT In California's Sierra mountains,
tragedy struck at Mammoth Ski Resort.
Three members of the ski patrol died
after a section of new snow collapsed
into a toxic volcanic vent.

In Utah, seven people escaped
injury after an avalanche swept their
car off the road. The SUV ended upside
down, 100 feet from the road with five
children and two adults inside.

VO NAT And the big news of the week were
the severe storms that covered nine
states yesterday.

A potent cold front, along with
unseasonably warm temperatures made
conditions perfect for storm
development. Inside those storms,
dozens of tornadoes formed, killing at
least 11 people.

Tennesee was the hardest hit.

Sunshine later this weekend, should
allow the clean-up to begin.

brought down all those trees also
packed some impressive lightning, and
strong winds which led to scattered
damage across the region.

In the Buchanan area downed trees
and power lines kept all available fire
and rescue crews out on scenes like
this one for much of the night.

Rescue personnel say the driver
of this vehicle escaped injury after a

tree limb fell on his truck off route

The storms strong winds also
brought down power lines, and in some
cases the live wires started small
brush fires.

Monday, vulture patrol began.
Officers staked out the troubled
neighborhood and have been setting off
noise making machines.

The noise is to teach the birds a

lesson, they're not welcome.

Neighbors have been dealing with
the hundreds of vultures hanging out in
their backyards for four, yes count
them, four years.

But the noise is
working...Wednesday night the count was
down to about 80, Thursday night, only
40 birds returned.
