OQ=News 7. < (END SOT) lacrosse players have been saying all

along -- the DNA test results indicate
their clients did not sexually

assault and exotic dancer after a team
party last month.

SOT: Wade Smith, Defense Atty.

"No DNA material from any young man
present was on the body of this

complaining woman."

The scandal has embroiled the campus
for weeks after the woman, a 27 old

student at nearby North Carolina
Central University, told police that

three team members dragged her into a
bathroom, and choked and raped

her.

Authorities ordered 46 of the 47
players on the team to submit DNA

samples to investigators. Because the
alleged victim said her attackers

were white, the teams sole black player
was not tested. The incident has

sparked charges of racism and tension
between the townspeople and

students.

(STANDUP) No charges had been filed but
the District Attorney had

maintained throughout that he believes
a crime was committed and he told

CBS News Monday night the case will
proceed.

The defense attorney for the players
says there is no reason for the DA

to file charges.

SOT: Wade Smith

"He doesn't have to do it, and we hope
that he won't."

Also at issue: the damaged reputation
of one of the nation's most

prestigious universities and this
nationally ranked team has been

brought to a standstill. Drew Levinson,

head coach at Gloucester and Greenville
County high schools.

In Orlando, Florida, Sunday, a

Residents have contacted Fish and
