believed to be missing and endangered
continues in Roanoke.

seven-year-old Chloe, five-year-old
Rachel and three-year-old Victor were
last seen earlier today at a family
member's house in Northeast.
Police say the children were
taken by their non-custodial parent,
36-year-old Angela Michael Lance.
Lance is believed to be traveling
in a 1992 blue Mazda hatchback with
license number YFR-4257.
Police say she doesn't have any
money and they're worried about the
children.

you're asked to call the Roanoke City
Police.

newest fire chief made it official.

ceremony yesterday morning.
He takes over for Buddy
Martinette who left in December for a
local government job in Hanover County.
Ferguson has more than thirty

work to keep teen drivers from getting
distracted behind the wheel.

featured in a public service
announcement urging teens not to let
gadgets like cell phones and CD players
take their focus off the road.
It ties into a new "Focus on
Driving" program, sponsored by Nextel.
The curriculum's software,
teacher's guides and other materials
will be offered to drivers ed classes
across the Commonwealth.
Kyle Busch says he too is guilty
of being distracted while driving, but
says he's gotten better since joining
the campaign.

have put together a two- year budget
that sets aside a billion- dollars for
transportation.

Delegates met last night to
review the deal.
Democrats offered several
amendments to the deal that were shot
down by the Republican majority.
The House also took up the
Senate's latest proposed spending plan,
which the Speaker ruled was out of
order.
That's because the Senate tacked
their plan onto the so- called caboose
bill, which is only intended to make
adjustments to the state's current
budget.

EDUCATION 7 ANIMATION has approved a 137- million dollar
budget that includes a pay raise for
employees.
Administrators had to cut three
million dollars from other areas to pay
for the increase, but they say the
final STATE budget could free up more
than a million dollars.
Last night, school officials also
briefed the board on their review of
the city's magnet schools. They said
five schools want to maintain their
magnet programs, while eight others
have recommended changes.
More meetings are planned with
stakeholders before a final
recommendation goes to the board in
May.

The U-S Army Corps of Engineers
recently announced it may close four
recreation sites at Philpott Lake,
either partially or entirely, because
of low funding.
Officials say they chose the
sites because of issues like low
visitation, high maintenance, and close
proximity to similar sites.
The Corps says the four sites
will remain open at least throughout
the remainder of the season.

GRAPHIC=Roanoke Electric Steel After 51 years, stockholders for
Roanoke Electric Steel voted the
company out of existence.

They approved a merger with Steel
Dynamics, the nation's sixth largest
steel maker.
While some of Roanoke Electric
Steel's 16-hundred workers had some
concerns about their future under new
corporate ownership, most are
encouraged by S-D-I's promise to invest
50-million dollars- -over time- -in the
Roanoke-based operation.
The merger goes into effect later
this month.
