responsible for a fire in Franklin
County that destroyed a barn, and
threatened to spark a forest fire
nearby.

were dispatched to the farm on Boones
Mill Road.
They found a barn filled with 200
large bales of hay.
83- year- old Pete Purdue had

had crews on Smith Mountain in
Pittsylvania County and Bull Mountain
in Patrick County.
Officials say despite the
rain, the fire danger remains high...

for the early morning fire that forced
eleven families from their apartments.
Half the units in Building "E"
at the Longwood Apartment complex in
Vinton were damaged in some way.
Several residents had to crawl
out of second and third-story windows
and then climb down ladders to safety.

and their pets- -got out okay.

man shot and killed his girlfriend

crews figure out how to get her out!

County, about 5 miles north of
Troutville.
Police say the driver, Josephine
Powell tried to switch lanes but they
believe a truck was in her blind spot,
and when she went to move over, she
clipped the bumper.
The car spun out, rolled down an
embankment and landed against the
trees.
Crews tell us they had to make sure
everything was stable before moving
her.
Rescue workers say the woman was in
good condition. She was transported to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

suspect... and also found a large
amount of cash and a gun.

where Jesse Thomas Matthews the third
was hiding out... the Alpine Motel in
Abingdon.
Police say Matthews walked into the
First National Bank in Radford
yesterday afternoon and demanded money.

Yesterday wanted for. Police say he's also
responsible for robberies in Northern
and Eastern Virginia.
Matthews is in the Southwest

A deadly accident in Pennsylvania
shows just how important it is to make
sure everything being hauled is secure.
A wood chipper being towed by a dump
truck broke free, hit the ground and
flew back up, hitting a minivan.
The chipper flew right through the
van's door, killing the man driving and
two of his kids. A third child was
taken to the hospital.
The driver didn't immediately
realize he had lost the chipper, turned
around and saw the devastation left
behind.
No word yet on whether the driver
will face charges.

to search for a black bear that killed
a six-year-old girl and seriously
injured her younger brother and mother.

second black bear attack in Tennessee
history.

mice away from her owner's deli but
these days she's been spending her time
inside a wall.

beloved cat of a New York neihborhood.
It's day 13 and everyone from
rescue workers to pet therapists have
been trying to coax her out. They can
hear her cries but can't get to her.
Some are now calling for the wall to
be knocked down but builders fear it
could have an impact on the safety of
the structure.

construction on the west end is still

Virginia for the past 18 years. They
have all been spent at the High School
Level, first at Grundy, and most
recently at Christiansburg. Wherever
Dresser has been he has won. The folks
at Virginia Tech are banking on that
tradition continuing at the College
Level. Travis Wells caught up with the
man whose new job will take him less
than 10 miles down the road.

Gray is back in Blacksburg this time as
a member of Frank Beamer's staff
instead of as a player.
Gray is in charge of the
defensive backs for the Hokies and
tomorrow's Spring Game will mark the
first on-field situation that fans will
be able to see Gray operate.
And at least from his perspective
things haven't changed that much since
Gray put on the pads for his former
coach and current boss.
