lightning strike was to blame for a
fire that destroyed one structure, and
threatened to spark a forest fire
nearby.
The call came in as a house fire,
but Joe Dashiell reports it was a barn
full of hay that went up in flames.

number of fairly small brush fires
across the area.
The Department of Forestry says
it has crews on Bull Mountain in
Patrick County and Smith Mountain in
Pittsylvania County.
Officials say the fire danger
remains high... and people should be
careful when it comes to outdoor

Investigators now know what
caused the fire that killed a Franklin
County man yesterday.
The fire department was called to
the 300-block of Treetop Road near
Rocky Mount at 5:30 yesterday evening.
After putting out the fire, they
found the body of 57 year old John
Darrell Dalton.
After investigating today, they
determined Dalton died of smoke
inhalation.
A faulty thermostat is being
blamed for the fire.

found when they tracked down a bank
robbery suspect.

Police say Matthews walked into the
First National Bank in Radford

out the door. Well slam the door shut
because the Hokies have hired Kevin
Dresser the Christiansburg High School
Coach to continue the resurgence of the
Program. Travis Wells checks in from
Blacksburg with the man who has won 13
Virginia State Team Titles on the High
School Level.

winning the last 5 state titles at
nearby Christiansburg and 8 more
previously at Grundy, Dresser's new
challenge will include adjusting to the
administrative side of coaching, and
hitting the road for recruiting, which
he says shouldn't be a problem at Tech.

One of the issues that could rear its
head early on, is the fact that at
least four current Hokies have declared
their intentions to join outgoing coach
Tom Brands at Iowa, if they receive
scholarship releases.
DRESSER:
TRAVIS WELLS: Dresser will head to a
tournament in Las Vegas this weekend to
begin interviewing potential assistant
coaching candidates, and could have an
announcement sometime next week in
regards to his staff. In Blacksburg,

game is set for tomorrow at two o'clock
at Lane Stadium.
The game will mark the first as a
coach for former Hokie star player
Torrian Gray.
He now coaches defensive backs,
and says his boss really isn't much
different now than he was during his
playing days.

coach Rob Senseney is trying to settle
into his new digs. The former Gretna
boss is finishing out the school year
at North Stafford while commuting to
Roanoke once a week.
The 34 year old says there was
plenty that attracted him to the
Colonels job. He succeeds Keith Smith
after recording a 7-3 season at North
Stafford.
