apartment building in Vinton has
displaced 20 to 30 residents.

This Morning The fire broke out around 2
o-clock inside a building at Longwood
Apartments on 8th Street.

When firefighters arrived, they
found fire was coming out of a third
story window, looping over the roof.
Fire was also in the breezway.

There were reports that people
were trapped inside.

GET OUT BECAUSE OF FIRE IN THE
BREEZWAY. WE WERE ABLE WITH THE
ASSISTANCEOF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO
GET A LADDER AND EVACUATE THOSE FOLKS
OUT A LADDER AND DOWN A WINDOW.

All of the residents in the
building did get out unharmed, but
there is a report that a police officer
was injured. There's no word on his
condition.

Heptinstall says the fire was
contained to the apartment where it
originated, but there is significant
damage to the rest of the building.

The Red Cross is working to
relocate the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire has not
been determined.

return to the scene of a house fire in
Franklin County to look for the cause.

The sheriff's department says the
body of a man was found after a house
fire in the 300-block of Treetop Road
near Rocky Mount.

The fire was reported around 5:30
yesterday evening.

The home was destroyed.

At last night's board meeting, a
petition with more than a thousand

names was presented, asking for the
resignation of Superintendent Linda
Weber.

The complaints and issues haven't
changed, whether it be Athletic
Director Randy Meck, Cave Spring's
delayed athletic fields or the
accusation that Weber leads by
intimidation.

The board is being briefed every
week by the person hired to investigate
Linda Weber and her actions.

old White Oak tree fell on Carolina
Avenue last summer.

Today, the tree is gone but the
memories remain.

since it fell right in her front yard.

They argued that council's
support for seperate stadiums was in

wrong direction.

four thousand jobs over the last five

He proposed changes in the
economic development program and asked
voters to support the Democratic or

the only candidates in the race who do
