GRAPHIC=Fire, brush The threat of brush fires

continues across Southwest and Central
Virginia.

Officials with the Virginia
Department of Forestry say within the
last couple of hours, the brush fire on
Bull Moutain in Patrick County has
grown significantly.

Some residents have NOW been
evacuated because of the growing fire.

Forestry officials say the fire
is in a remote section of Patrick
County, which has made the blaze tough
to control.

We do have a crew on the way and
hope to have more information tonight
on News 7 at 11.

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A late night crash in Roanoke

County claimed the life of one person.

Police say Bui Tuyen ran his
vehicle off the side of the 78-hundred
block of Woodhaven Road around 12:30
this morning and struck several trees.

26-year-old Minh Thi Thu Haynh,
of Roanoke, was pronounced dead at the
scene.

There's no word on the condition
of the driver.

Police say neither was wearing
seatbelts and that speed and alcohol
may have been factors.

The accident is still under
investigation.

of running a multistate insurance fraud
scheme -- that included claims here in
Virginia.

Authorities say Ronald and Mary
Evano filed false claims that there was
glass in their food at restaurants,
hotels and grocery stores in several
states.

One of those establishments was
in the Richmond suburb of *Midlothian.*

Ronald Evano was arrested
yesterday in Maryland.

Authorities are still looking for
his wife.

says it's not too late for folks to
turn their PIT bulls into PET bulls.

Society's Planned Pethood Clinic began
offering free spaying and neutering for
pit bulls and pit bull mixes through a
nine-thousand dollar grant.

Officials say so far, they've
performed about a hundred surgeries,
but the grant allows for about 60-more.

opened for business.

train inside the Mill Mountain Zoo made
its first loop through the freshly
painted tunnel.

Many volunteers have spent the
last couple weekends painting these
murals to give the tunnel a new look.

Along with the first train ride,
the zoo staff had candy, activities,
and plenty of animal exhibits.

has quietly worked its way up the
rankings to 4th in the country. The
Maroons entered today's contest with

is in Fort Worth, Texas to take on the
top seeded Flyers in one semifinal.
The winner advances to next weekend's

sky today for the 8th Annual Blue Ridge
Kite Festival.

Near-perfect flying conditions
brought an estimated 8-thousand people
to Green Hill park today.

While some brought their own
kites, others took advantage of the
free ones, or simply watched the
display of color.

The big attraction each year is
the Richmond Air Force Kite Club.

The group demonstrates the latest
kite styles, some costing several
hundred dollars.

The event is put on by the
Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of
Commerce.
