GRAPHIC=None The annual White House Easter Egg

Roll was this morning.

ENG#=2 VO-NAT

*CG locator Washington, DC

The 16 thousand tickets were
available on a first come first served
basis.

Once on the south lawn, children
used big spoons to push brightly--
colored eggs in the race across the

grass.

The White House egg roll is an Easter
tradition that started in 18- 78.

This year, participants included a
lot of same-sex couples.

Gay and lesbian parents wore rainbow
colored leis, but they denied it was a
form of protest.

Still critics accused them of
playing politics with the event.

The Easter Egg Roll was started by
President Rutherford B. Hayes.
