This Morning Police say a tractor trailer
carrying batteries overturned there
around three-o clock this morning.
The accident is blocking two
northbound lanes between the Franklin
Road and Elm Avenue exits.
V-DOT says those lanes will
remain closed for several hours.
Roanoke Police say the driver of
the tractor trailer was taken to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The cause of the accident is
under investigation.

investigating a murder.
Officers responded to a women
screaming for help early this morning.
They arrived and found a man who
had been fatally stabbed.
The victim's identity is not
being released pending notification of
his family.
Detectives have obtained a
warrant for murder for Edward D.
Beverly and they're still looking for
him.

four days now is almost 75 percent
contained.

bars, charged with a violent attack on
his five-week-old daughter over the
weekend.

told police the girl fell off a sofa
while he was babysitting her Saturday
night.

continue his work.

friends, Republican Brad Finch
announced his candidacy.
Last month he took over after
Joey Showalter resigned to be appointed
27-th Judicial Circuit Court Judge.
Finch joined the Montgomery
County Commonwealth's Attorney office
in 2001 and rose through the ranks to
become Showalter's Chief Deputy.
Finch says he will run a clean
and positive campaign.
A special election will be held
in November.

cost you an extra buck.

File Tape Yesterday, city council approved
a request by local taxicab companies to
add a one-dollar fuel surcharge to its
rates -- to help offset rising gas
prices.
The council regulates the rates
of ALL taxi-cab companies in the city.
The new surcharge will go into
effect May First, with signs posted in
each cab.
The city says the fee may be
removed if the average price of
regular, unleaded gas falls below two
bucks per gallon over a six month
period.

still six months away.
However, it's already signing
some well- known acts.

October The free, three- day event
designed to celebrate American culture
will be held in Richmond again this
year.
Performers will include the
"Kenny and Amanda Smith Band" from
Virginia, the inventor of "go- go"
music Chuck Brown and several
international acts.
Virginia First Lady, Anne Holton,
will serve as official chairperson.
When the music moves her, she
says she's been known to do a little
flat- footing.
The festival starts October 13th,
but more than a thousand volunteers are
needed ahead of time.

come the Roanoke City libraries.
However, some say it's at the
cost of renovating Victory Stadium.

Last night, council voted five
to two to reallocate stadium funds to
the library system.
With the two high school stadiums
expected to cost more than eight
million dollars, Mayor Harris decided
the city has another five and half
million dollars to use for long overdue
library improvements.
The two council members who
support renovating Victory Stadium
voted against the measure but pointed
out they support the library system.

Anthony's is going behind bars for
embezzling nearly 200-thousand dollars
from the restaurant.
Donna Marie Phillips was
sentenced yesterday to two years and
three months in prison.
She was also ordered to pay back
the money she took.
