welcome to the Monday ticker as we fire
up a new work week with some gold,
copper and something that might be

tarnished.

The Civitan Club handed out its
sportsmanship award this afternoon for
the recently completed high school
basketball season, and they gave the
award to Hidden Valley's Girls' Team.

The Titans made it all the way to
the State Finals this season and along
the way did it with class. The
Sportsmanship award is voted on by
members of the Western Virginia
Basketball Officials Association.

So, there was no better speaker
for today's event than Roger Ayres the
Head of the Officials association and
an A-C-C Referee who has seen the level
of Sportsmanship continue to decline.

Hidden Valley's Out-Going Head
Coach Steve Buchanan has tried to
reverse that trend on and off the
court.

Saturday and the man expected to go
number one in the selection process is
making the wrong kind of headlines this

afternoon.

The PAC 10 conference says it is
looking into a report that Reggie
Bush's family lived in the house in
Spring Valley, Calif., owned by a man
who had sought to handle their talented
son's professional marketing

No big deal except that all of
this allegedly took place while Bush
was still playing for USC.

NCAA rules prohibit
student-athletes and their families
from receiving extra benefits from
agents or their representatives and you
would have to say that living in a home
purchased for $757 thousand 500 bucks
is somewhat of a benefit. True or not
- violation or not - the kicker is that
Bush eventually signed with a different
agent and marketing firm - anyway.
