Pittman. Police believe the pair were
shot by

this man.. Her ex-boyfriend, 30 year
old Ronald Lee Stroupe. Investigators
say Stroupe took two small children
from the home, dropped them off at a

relatives house and fled to North
Carolina.

An investigator called Stroupe's cell
phone and convinced him to turn around.
Police picked him up a rest stop off
Interstate 77.

Authorities say 30- year- old
Jesse Lee Allen of Roanoke was shot
when he advanced on the officer with a
knife.

information on Allen's condition... But
police say he was shot in the hip area,
and they do not believe he suffered any
life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, officer perkins has
been placed on administrative leave
while investigators look into the
circumstances surrounding the shooting.

three-car crash in Bedford County this
afternoon.

bridge over Stony Fork Creek around
2:00.

Details are still sketchy but a
person in the Ford Escort was killed
when the car collided with a sport
utility vehicle.

No one else was hurt.

State police have "not" released
the name of the victim.

Route 122 was blocked in both
directions for several hours while
authorities investigated the crash.

Carl Hutcherson's defense team failed

to make much of an impression on the
judge.

Federal Judge James Turk today
denied a motion to dismiss one fraud
count against the Lynchburg Mayor.

The judge also rejected a request
to postpone the trial another three
weeks.

VO-NAT Agent Rob Childress acknowledged today

that he asked the Social Security
office in Lynchburg to call Hutcherson
in last year.

Childress told local auditors to "keep
it low key and 'routine,' " so
Hutcherson wouldn't realize he was
being investigated.

Hutcherson's lawyers called it a
government "sting" operation.

The judge said he doubts such evidence
is admissible.

Though a Social Security auditor
concluded "fraud was not an issue," the
judge says that's up to the jury to
decide.

Paul Chambers, the organization's
executive director since August of
2003, announced his resignation today.

Chambers says there have been
differences between him and the
artistic membership of the orchestra --
and that it was in the organization's
best interest that he step aside.

Officials say they will begin the
search for a replacement this summer.

friend J.J. Redick, the best all-around
athlete to emerge from that graduating
class at Cave Spring was his basketball
teammate - Tom Hagan.

only basketball, but also football and

baseball for the Knights - plus he was
was a valedictorian and the winner of
the 2002 B'nai B'rith award.

Mike Stevens caught up the Hagan
who is in his senior season at Virginia
and flat out knocking the cover off the
baseball.

(END SOT) The Virginia Cavaliers baseball

team is ranked as high as 13th in the
nation this week in the national polls,
and Hagan's unselfish play is a big
reason for the success.


He's playing three different
positions for the Cavs this year and
batting a staggering 388 through 36
games.

TOM HAGAN

Hagan has only made one error
this season and at six three - he is
much faster than he looks. The speed
that made him such a tough receiver in
high school, has allowed him to steal 9
out of 10 bases he attempted to swipe
this season. The success he and the
team have had on the diamond has made
his decision to punt football in 2004
much easier to justify.

TOM HAGAN

No regrets and no doubts that he
and Redick - with whom he played little
league baseball - are both on the right
career paths. Hagan says any doubts he
may have had were erased when he saw
Redick take some swings with the Durham
Bulls earlier this month.

Hagan and the Cavs are now 34 and
10 on the season and tied for second
place in the ACC's Coastal Division.

to rest. Michael Vick has settled the
lawsuit filed against him by a woman
who alleges that Vick gave her Herpes.
The attorney for Vick would not comment
on what the terms of the settlement
were, just saying the Case has been
resolved.

This morning, the city planted a
white oak in the middle of Carolina
Avenue.

The five-inch diameter tree marks

the spot *CG file August 2005 of the old "Carolina Oak" tree that
collapsed last August.

Many considered the tree a living
landmark-- at more than 300-years-old.
