Laquan Pittman were shot.
A neighbor caught the
aftermath on home video.
The Sheriff says Brewer died
after surgery late yesterday afternoon
at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Her former boyfriend,
30-year-old Ronald Stroupe, is now
charged with her murder.
Stroupe's being held in the
New River Valley Jail.

GRAPHIC=Carl Hutcherson Jury selection for the trial of
Lynchburg Mayor Carl Hutcherson is set
to begin at 9:30 this morning.
Documents brought to light by
Hutcherson's defense team earlier this
week failed to make much of an
impression on the judge.
Yesterday, Federal Judge James
Turk denied a motion to dismiss one
fraud count against the Lynchburg
Mayor.
The judge also rejected a request
to postpone the trial another three
weeks.

VO-NAT Agent Rob Childress acknowledged
yesterday that he asked the Social
Security office in Lynchburg to call
Hutcherson in last year.
Childress told local auditors to
"keep it low key and 'routine,' " so
Hutcherson wouldn't realize he was
being investigated.
Hutcherson's lawyers called it a
government "sting" operation.
The judge said he doubts such
evidence is admissible.
Though a Social Security auditor
concluded "fraud was not an issue," the
judge says that's up to the jury to
decide.

development.

supervisors approved Loblolly Mill, a
subdivision that will include about 29
houses-- most likely priced between
500-thousand and one million dollars.
The planning commission voted
against the project, but supervisors
did not agree... addressing concerns
taxes could go up, but arguing that
also means property values go up.
But the main reason most
supervisors voted yes was they believe
the developer took precautions to
ensure open space, preserving the
community.

ravine in eastern Virginia.

There's word this morning that former
Roanoke delegate Vic Thomas has died. A
family member called us to say that
Thomas passed away just after midnight
from heart problems. Thomas was first
elected to the House of Delegates in
1974.
After serving nearly 30 years in the
General Assembly he announced his
retirement in 2003.
The family member we spoke with this
morning said that Oakey's is handling
the funeral arrangments.

Authorities say 30- year- old
Jesse Lee Allen was shot and wounded,
when he came towards the officer with a
knife in his hand.

Rumsfeld made a suprise visit to
Baghdad today to show U-S support for
Iraq's new government leaders, and to
meet with military commanders.
He also had business with the top U-S
Commander in Iraq, General George
Casey.
Casey has said a significant number
of troops can come home this spring or
summer, if the insurgency doesn't grow
and if progress can be made training
Iraqi forces.

Roanoke delegate Vic Thomas has died. A
family member called us to say that
Thomas passed away just after midnight
from heart problems.

the House of Delegates in 1974.
After serving nearly 30 years in the
General Assembly he announced his

about a deadly crash in Bedford County.

It happened on Route 122 on the
bridge over Stony Fork Creek around two
yesterday afternoon.
State Police say 69-year-old
William Boyes rear-ended one car, then
drifted into the opposite lane and was
hit by an S-U-V. Boyes died at the
scene. No one else was injured.
Route 122 was blocked in both
directions for several hours while
authorities investigated the crash.

GRAPHIC=Carl Hutcherson Jury selection for the trail of
Lynchburg Mayor Carl Hutcherson is set
to begin at 9:30 this morning.
Documents brought to light by
Carl Hutcherson's defense team earlier
this week failed to make much of an
impression on the judge.
Yesterday, Federal Judge James
Turk denied a motion to dismiss one
fraud count against the Lynchburg
Mayor.
The judge also rejected a request
to postpone the trial another three
weeks.

VO-NAT Agent Rob Childress acknowledged
yesterday that he asked the Social
Security office in Lynchburg to call
Hutcherson in last year.
Childress told local auditors to "keep
it low key and 'routine,' " so
Hutcherson wouldn't realize he was
being investigated.
Hutcherson's lawyers called it a
government "sting" operation.
The judge said he doubts such evidence
is admissible.
Though a Social Security auditor
concluded "fraud was not an issue," the
judge says that's up to the jury to
decide.

development.

supervisors approved Loblolly Mill, a
subdivision that will include about 29
houses most likely priced between
500-thousand and one million dollars.
The planning commission voted

supervisors voted yes was they believe
the developer took precautions to

ENG#1 Former Roanoke delegate Vic Thomas has
died. A family member called us this
morning to say that Thomas passed away
just after midnight from heart
problems. We will have much more on
this story later today on News 7.

One of the Wythe County
shooting victims has died. Deputies say
22-year-old Tiffany Louise Brewer and
31-year old Laquan Pittman were shot
yesterday morning at a home on Ivanhoe
Road. The Sheriff says Brewer died
after surgery late yesterday afternoon
at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Her former boyfriend, 30-year-old
Ronald Stroupe, is now charged with her
murder.

County supervisors approved Loblolly
Mill, a subdivision that will include
about 29 houses most likely priced
between 500-thousand and one million
dollars. The planning commission had
voted against the project.
