Thomas has died.
Family members say he passed away
overnight. He was 76 years old.

Thomas was first elected to the
General Assembly in 1973, and easily
won re-election fifteen times.
He was a strong supporter of
Roanoke institutions, the state's
mental health system, and programs
supporting Virginia's hunters and
fishermen.
When he decided to retire in
2003, Thomas told News 7 how much he
enjoyed representing the Roanoke
Valley.

of 85, he and six others struggled onto
the roof to escape the rising water.
Just moments after they were
ferried to safety, the building was
washed away.

the federal fraud case against the
Mayor of Lynchburg.

The public corruption scandal generated
a lot of controversy in his hometown.
That is one reason the case is being
tried in Roanoke.
Still, more than half of the
potential jurors called to hear the
case said they had already learned
something about the charges against
Hutcherson.

unannounced visit by Secretary of
Defense Donald Rumseld was followed by
another unexpected
guest....Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice.
Both came to show support for Iraq's
emerging new government...meeting
with President Jalal Talabani and prime
minister designate Jawad
al-Maliki.

The defense secretary also met with the
top U-S commander in Iraq.
General George Casey is expected to

details today.

the most wanted man in Iraq
showed up on the internet. Al qaeda
leader abu musab al-zarqawi
denounced what he called... Iraq's new
puppet government and warned of

Egyptian officials say two suicide
bombers died today in yet another
attack.
They were the only casualties in the
blast near a peacekeeping base near the
Gaza border.

staying on in the Egyptian resort town
of Dahab.
The triple bomb attack left 24

Tiffany Louise Brewer and 31-year old
Laquan Pittman were shot.
A neighbor caught the
aftermath on home video.
The Sheriff says Brewer died
after surgery late yesterday afternoon
at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Her former boyfriend,
30-year-old Ronald Stroupe, is now
charged with her murder.
Stroupe's being held in the
New River Valley Jail.

relatives and victims of the disaster
gathered as bells rang and sirens

exploded, sending clouds of radiation
over much of the former Soviet Union
and Europe.

Supervisors would give their seal of
approval on a proposed housing
development.

In a four to one vote, the
supervisors approved Loblolly Mill, a
subdivision that will include about 29
houses-- most likely priced between
500-thousand and one million dollars.
The planning commission voted
against the project, but supervisors
did not agree... addressing concerns
taxes could go up, but arguing that
also means property values go up.
But the main reason most
supervisors voted yes was they believe
the developer took precautions to
ensure open space, preserving the
community.

People Magazine is reporting the
actress suffered an eye injury when a
light bulb exploded on the set of her
T-V series, "Desperate Housewives."
Hatcher told the magazine that glass
got lodged in her right eye and
scratched her cornea.
She says she was taken to an eye
doctor and is now wearing an eye patch.
But fans shouldn't worry.. Hatcher
says she should be back at work on the
set soon.
