McCloskey case.

VO-NAT McCloskey was the Virginia Tech


freshmen who police believe was hit and
killed by a car on a Blacksburg walking
trail back in November.

This week, a Montgomery County
grand jury indicted 20 year old Aaron
Pierce who is also a Virginia Tech
student.

According to a search warrant
filed in March, Pierce admitted he had
been drinking alcohol and was driving a
Ford Excursion through the walking
trail that night.

But he was unsure whether he hit
McCloskey.

Pierce has been released on a
50-thousand dollar bond.

His first court date is
scheduled for May 24th.

execution to be carried out for the
first time in his term as governor.

Dexter Lee Vinson was put
to death last night for the sexual
assault and murder of his former
girlfriend.

Vinson received a lethal
injection at the Greensville
Correctional Center in Jarratt and was
pronounced dead at 9:15 p-m.

Catholic -- is morally opposed to the
death penalty, but promised during his
campaign last year to uphold death
sentences.

Vinson's case was the first test
of that pledge.

state lawmakers will attend the funeral
of former Delegate Vic Thomas today.

Thomas, who represented Roanoke
in the House of Delegates for 30 years,
died Wednesday at the age of 76.

The funeral will be held at 1

o-clock today at Saint Andrew's
Catholic Church in Roanoke.

would impose a six- cent- tax on every

terminals.

But, Senator Charles Hawkins says
oil companies can write- it off as an

a high-speed chase through Lynchburg, a
Florida man faces multiple charges.

It started around 10:45
yesterday morning when a patrol car
tried to stop a vehicle on Memorial
Avenue for having tinted windows.

The driver refused to pull over
and led authorities on a chase through
mid-town at speeds of up to 60 miles
per hour.

Police finally were able to box
him in on Taylor Street.

36-year-old William Cox of
Kissimmee kiss-IM-me, Florida, is
charged with reckless driving, no
operator's license and attempting to
elude police.

bus driver may face charges after
police say he rear-ended a car
yesterday.

The Chevy Cavalier was stopped at
the intersection of Airport and Peters
Creek Roads when the accident occurred.

Two-teenage girls in the car were
taken to the hospital.

Bill Brown is retiring in June
after nearly 36 years with the town
police department.

Brown says it's time to say

good-bye, and he's looking forward to
finally having some down time.

Brown was hired in 1970, and
became the first black police officer
in the entire New River Valley.

He worked at nearly every job in
the department, before becoming chief
in 1994.
