10 KMC 11-Pierce 1 vo Brian McCloskey 2458 --
GRAPHIC=Brian McCloskey There's a major development in

the Brian McCloskey case.

A suspect has been charged.

ENG#=1 VO-NAT

VO-NAT McCloskey was the Virginia Tech

freshmen who police believe was hit and
killed by a car on a Blacksburg walking
trail back in November.

This week, a Montgomery County grand
jury indicted 20 year old Aaron Pierce,
who is also a Virginia Tech student.

According to a search warrant filed
in March, Pierce admitted he had been
drinking alcohol, and was driving a
Ford Excursion through the walking
trail that night.

But he was unsure whether he hit
McCloskey.

Pierce has been released on a
50-thousand dollar bond.

His first court date is scheduled for
May 24th.

It's Thursday night at the Cornerstone

what most walking by might not know is
what's going on upstairs....speed
dating....

STANDUP and the reason that people are
turning to the new dating phenomenon is
because they all agree on one
thing....while they love Roanoke, they
all feel it's hard to meet new

people....

So what is it? It's five men, five
women and they will rotate, having six
minute conversations with each other.

16:58:42-46..talking about the
zipline...(it's cute, looks like
they're meshing well)

Adrienne Barnett--17:20:41-58

It's an interesting way to meet people,
it's hard to go out to the bar scene,
hard to meet people, here you have five
minutes, enough to know if you're not
interested or if you are, it's a
glimpse of what somebody's like

And conversations reach anywhere from
the normal questions....

17:02:53-56...so what do you do? sales

To background checks....

(you're going to have to cover this
because the camera was on a wall)
17:09:55 have you ever been arrested?

With questions like that and perceived
stigmas about this new way of
dating...we wondered were the singles
apprehensive?

17:25:00-12 the first drive from here
to there, the last three minutes, i
can do this, phew, brave it do it, i'm
okay

17:22:40-53 i think it's kind of like
putting your profile on the internet,
trying to meet somebody, don't know
where to start, afraid of looking
desperate....(laughing)

But once you move past that, Adrienne
says it's a lot of fun....

16:50:46-55

college mixers...college mixers
yeah!,.... that's good,

STANDUP -- And for those who need an
extra push...the Cupid's website offers
a flirting guide, giving tips on what
to say and more importantly what not to
say!

We've come to the end of the speed
dating session....((17:19:40-(shot of
her writing, good to explain, they have
to pick who they want")) and as it
wraps up, participants are asked to do
what Holly's doing....write down who
they're interested in seeing again. The
organizer will then go back and enter
everthing into a website and it will
e-mail everyone who they've matched up
with.By the way, we used first names
only because that's how they do it in
speed dating.

And I know what you're asking

yourself...did it work? Did anything
actually come of these 6 minute
dates....

We're going to check in with Holly,
Adrienne and Robert and we'll have the
second part of this story three weeks
from now. Natasha Ryan, News 7 >>

This week, a Montgomery County grand

According to a search warrant filed
in March, Pierce admitted he had been
drinking alcohol and was driving a Ford

Pierce has been released on a
