A federal jury needed just 90 minutes
of deliberations last night before
finding Carl Hutcherson guilty of
Social Security fraud and bank fraud.
Jurors also convicted him in an attempt
to cover up his crimes.
The Mayor remains free on bond until he
is sentenced, but that date has not
been set.
Hutcherson's term as Mayor expires June
30th.

Amherst County are no doubt waking up
happy to know that two wanted men are
in custody.

The two were arrested yesterday after a
four-hour manhunt.
It started after deputies were told
that two men had stolen guns and
electronics from a home in Elon.
Deputies say a few hours later, they
found 33 year-old Dustin Holloway
hiding inside a home.
Within two more hours, they also
arrested 26-year-old Samuel Morris
Lane.
Investigators say the stolen weapons
were recovered from a wooded area near
River Road.

identities of a woman and child killed
in an accident in Giles County.

State Police say 47 year old
Jeannie Shelton of Dublin was driving
her Chevy Blazer Southbound on Route
100 toward Dublin around one o'clock
yesterday afternoon, when she crossed
over the center line and hit a truck
head-on.
Both Shelton and her two-year-old
grandson Brendan Shelton died at the
scene.
Neither was wearing a seatbelt.
An infant in a car seat was also
in the vehicle and was airlifted to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
There is still no word on that
child's condition.
The driver of the truck was not
injured.

Valley.

happy to know that two wanted men are
in custody.

electronics from a home in Elon.

Investigators say the stolen weapons

identities of a woman and child killed
in an accident in Giles County.

State Police say 47 year old
Jeannie Shelton of Dublin was driving
her Chevy Blazer Southbound on Route
100 toward Dublin around one o'clock
yesterday afternoon, when she crossed
over the center line and hit a truck
head-on.
Both Shelton and her two-year-old
grandson Brendan Shelton died at the
scene.
Neither was wearing a seatbelt.
An infant in a car seat was also
in the vehicle and was airlifted to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
There's still no word on that
child's condition.
The driver of the truck was not
injured.

for a new mayor in July that could put

But it was Foley who got the most
votes even though he was the youngest
candidate on the ballot. This former
Salem star football player may have had

and family for helping him win.

ENG#1 It was a "For the City" ticket clean
sweep in Roanoke last night.
Independents David Trinkle, Gwen Mason
and Alfred Dowe Junior came out on top.
They believe this election was a
referendum on Victory Stadium and they
mayor says it's time to tear it down.
City Council members Brian Wishneff and
Sherman Lea were not happy with the
election results, but indicated they
now believe the voters have spoken on
the future of the Roanoke landmark.

After deliberating for 90 minutes last
night, a federal jury found Lynchburg
Mayor Carl Hutcherson guilty of Social
Security fraud and bank fraud.
Jurors also convicted him in an attempt
to cover up his crimes.
Hutcherson remains free on bond until
he is sentenced, but that date has not
been set.

ENG#3 And in an effort to get more
trucks off Interstate- 81, Norfolk
Southern wants to build a new terminal
in the Roanoke Valley.
The terminal will be used to transfer
double- stacked containers from trucks
to rail and is expected to generate new
jobs.
Sources tell News 7 the company will
reveal the site of the terminal early
next week.
