had a pretty good idea of who dumped a
noxious-smelling chemical inside
Liberty High School yesterday.
Their suspicions were confirmed
when the student showed up today ...
with the smell still on his clothes.

The spill forced the evacuation of

The student was arrested after he
came to school this morning.

find a bigger bill in the upcoming
months.
APCO is asking for more than
198-million dollars in rate increases.
If approved, the new rates would
increase revenues by 25 percent in
Virginia.
That means a customer who uses
a-thousand megawatts a month- or about
fifty dollars in bills.. would pay
about 13-dollars more.
The last time the State
Corporation Commission granted
Appalachian Power a rate increase was
1993.

There is a plan to develop wind
turbines in Highland County.
The project is expected to
generate as much as 250-thousand
dollars a year in local tax revenues.
As for the project in Tucker
County, energy company officials and
county commissioners estimated that
project would bring in about
135-thousand dollars a year in revenue.

George Allen may have a fairly easy
road to re-election.
The latest News-7 poll shows a
majority of voters don't even know who
his opponents are.
Survey USA polled 465 registered
voters throughout Virginia about their
opinions on each of the candidates for
the United States Senate.

VO-NAT More than half the respondents
had a favorable opinion of Allen, the
current Republican senator.
While 25-percent had an
unfavorable opinion.
But most barely recognized the
other three candidates.
Sixty-percent of those polled
were unfamiliar with Democrat Harris
Miller.
Only four-percent had a favorable
opinion. Fourteen percent had a
negative opinion.
It was a similar story for the
other Democrat-- James Webb-- he got an
11-percent favorable rating, but
55-percent of the voters polled were
unfamiliar with him.
Independent Gail Parker received
a six-percent favorable vote, but
64-percent of those polled were
unfamiliar with her.

on women's heart problems.

head coaching vacancy.

its new coach. Multiple sources say
the 46 year old Lowe will replace Herb
Sendek in Raleigh.
The point guard on State's
national title team in '83, Lowe has

Detroit.

driver of the 29 car doing laps on the
race track this season. Harvick who
took over driving for Richard Childress
racing in the Cup Series after the
death of Dale Earnhardt, has been the
topic of conversation and speculation
by many as to who he would drive for in
2-thousand and 7, with his contract at
R-C-R up at the end of the season.
Everyone else is talking about it
except Harvick when he was asked about
it this week.

One of Harvick's teammate's at
R-C-R Jeff Burton was more acceptive to
talking about the topic.

track haven't affected Harvick's
performance, he is in the top 10 in
points and has one win this season.

A Roanoke bear is settling into
his new home in Richmond tonight.

Last Night Wildlife officials drove him to
his new den at Maymont Park last night.
A surveillance camera inside his
cage gave Richmonders their first
glimpse of the park's widely-
anticipated addition.
*CG locator Blacksburg The orphaned bear weighed only 18-
Tuesday pounds when he was found wandering
around Roanoke last fall.
Officials feared he wouldn't
survive the winter, but researchers at
Virginia Tech were able to nurse him
back to health.
He now weighs 60- pounds and has
been named "Tim" after Governor Kaine.
