office.

as the supervisors proposed cutting the
program which provides an agricultural
agent to farmers and a 4H agent to
kids.

The group pointed out that
farming is a more than three-million
dollar industry in the county and needs
all the help it can get.

challengers for George Allen's Senate
seat?

If you can't, you're not along.

The latest News-7 poll shows a
majority of voters are unfamiliar with
his opponents.

Survey USA polled 465 registered
voters throughout Virginia about their
opinions on each of the candidates for
the United States Senate.

VO-NAT More than half the respondents


had a favorable opinion of Allen, the
current Republican senator.

While 25-percent had an
unfavorable opinion.

But most barely recognized the
other three candidates.

Sixty-percent of those polled
were unfamiliar with Democrat Harris
Miller.

Only four-percent had a favorable
opinion.

It was a similar story for the
other Democrat-- James Webb-- he got an
11-percent favorable rating, but
55-percent of the voters polled were
unfamiliar with him.


Independent Gail Parker received
a six-percent favorable vote, but
64-percent of those polled were
unfamiliar with her.

Allen's opponents are
fairly unknown even among members of
their own party.

find a bigger bill in the upcoming
months.

APCO is asking for more than
198-million dollars in rate increases.

If approved, the new rates would
increase revenues by 25 percent in
Virginia.

That means a customer who uses
a-thousand megawatts a month- or has
about a 50-dollar bill.. would pay
about 13-dollars more.

The last time the State
Corporation Commission granted
Appalachian Power a rate increase was
1993.

energy continue to rise, many companies
are exploring other options, like the
wind.

Some companies have interest in

wind development in Southwest Virginia
in places like Highland County.

One wind farm is already up and
running.

The Mountaineer Wind Energy
Center is located in Tucker County,
West Virginia.

It's operated by Florida Power
Light, Energy.

She suggested simple stress
relievers like facial exercises, taking

a piece of paper in the hallway at
Woodrow Wilson Middle School.

Terry DeHart says littering is a
pet peeve of his, so he spoke to the
young man about it.

A Bedford County student has been
charged with releasing a
noxious-smelling chemical inside
Liberty High School Wednesday morning.

The spill forced the evacuation
of employees from the administration
building.

Authorities got tips from
students and developed a suspect late
Wednesday.

The 15-year-old freshman was
arrested this morning when he showed up
at school and his clothes still smelled
of the pesticide.

at Kentland Farm.

Most of the Hokies are graduating

technology they helped create.
