Martinsville are investigating an armed
robbery.

yesterday morning.

The owner of the shop says a man
came into the store and held her at
*knife point* demanding money.

She says the suspect then took

into a neighborhood known for crime.

formerly known as Lincoln Terrace is
receiving renovations of up to 40
million dollars.

The changes include new homes,
parks and playgrounds, as well as adult
literacy classes and childhood outreach
programs located inside the TAP Head
Start building.

Officials say the city's
long-term goal is to have Hurt Park
undergo this same transformation.

the annual Chili Cook-off.

Some familiar faces handed out
samples to hundreds of chili lovers.

There was even a celebrity face
in the crowd.

Survivor's Big Tom dropped in on

contests, and give-a-ways for those
brave enough to participate.

Of course the cook-off is a
competition pitting tent versus tent --

penalty for every month they delay. How
much that will be is calculated using
the base rate for the year they are
enrolling. For example this year it's
33 dollars. So for our purposes we will
use this number to calculate. For every
month they delay there is a 1% penalty.
If they wait for the next enrollment
period November 15th, they will face a
7% penalty or a charge of $2.31.

If they hold off until the following
year, that's 19% increase or $6.27 more
a month.

Abell would like to see the deadline
extend, but that would take an act of
congress. That's why he's urging
seniors who are concerned to contact
their representatives.

VO NAT Where much-needed rainfall
finally started fall in drought
affected areas of Kenya and Ethiopia.

Many in these areas have lost all
their animals due to the ongoing
drought, and are living off
humanitarian aid. More rain is expected
in the drought stricken areas today.

VO NAT A dangerous line of severe
weather hits parts of Texas. Several
tornadoes were spotted and caught on
tape in Lemasa near Lubbock. Along with

the tornadoes came large hail.

Many the storms packed 80
mile-per-hour winds and heavy rain,
uprooting trees, toppling power lines
and damaged buildings in parts of the
city. More storms are in the forecast
today, but should be scattered and less
severe.

Congressman Rick Boucher, who's

also a Roanoke College alumni,
addressed the graduates --

This year's commencement was
webcast live throughout the event.

The school also offered each
graduate a free DVD of the ceremony.

Yesterday afternoon was the first
time in four-years the public has laced
up their skates at the Civic Center.

After the Ice Station closed
down, the city decided to reopen its

rink to the public.

Yesterday turnout appeared to be
a little low.

Of course, it had some stiff
competition between college graduations
and local festivals.

Public skate is scheduled for the
next two weekends.

And depending on the turnout and
interest, Civic Center officials will
decide whether it will be a permanent
fixture in Roanoke.
