Three Roanoke County high school
students have been arrested on a field
trip to New York City.

Two Cave Spring Seniors- -both
boys- -and a girl from Hidden Valley
face nine felony charges, each,

assault and criminal mischief.
The three Roanoke County
teenagers were on an art fieldtrip to
New York when they allegedly broke into
a supply closet and took cans of paint.

Somehow they got onto the roof of the
Doubletree Metro Hotel at Lexington and
Fifty-first street.
City police report the students were
tossing the one-gallon cans of paint
into the street around Five O'clock
Sunday morning. The hotel is directly
across the street from the N-Y-P-D's
17th Precinct.
One paint can hit a patrolman on duty-
-striking him in the eye. Two more
cans struck police cars. Three police
scooters were damaged along with an
officer's personal vehicle.

were charged along with the 17-year old
from Hidden Valley.

construction equipment nicked a couple
of bridges over 581 this afternoon.

A VDOT spokesman says the truck
hit the Hershberger Road and Liberty
Road overpasses, knocking some debris
onto the highway.
One lane southbound under the
Liberty bridge is still closed.
So far, VDOT believes the damage
is cosmetic, but they're checking to

sign what they describe as a landmark
agreement.

improvements along the Heartland
Corridor, a Norfolk Southern line that
runs from Tidewater to the midwest.
Officials believe the project has
major potential to divert trucks from

County jail, the 23-year old had been

reclaimation project at U-V-A he needs
talent. So he must recruit players
like Chris Wright who is one of the Top
Point guards in the country, Wright was
in Charlottesville this weekend for an
A-A-U tournament.

N-C State but when Herb Sendek left
town, he backed out of his Verbal
Commitment. One of the Programs he is
now considering is Virginia. This is
just part of the recruiting trail for
Leitao and company who got a late start

father and son have decided to quit
coaching in the same year.
Earlier this year Billy Miles
announced his resignation from Franklin
County after six seasons there and and
36 total on the sideline.

Last Season Today, his son Shaine Miles, who
:00 has been an assistant coach at Marshall
University for the past three years
resigned his post
Miles was considered by most to
be a rising star in the coaching
business and a natural recruitor, but
he says once his son Brock was born
last December - the time away from home
got to be too much of a burden.
Miles and his wife Vanessa, who
also is a Salem native will still be
close to Huntington - they are opening
a Chick-Fil-A restaurant in Ashland,
Kentucky - a few miles from Marshall.
Miles was an all-star linebacker
at Salem his senior season at 1992 and
later lettered four straight years at
Virginia Tech - playing on four
consecutive bowl teams.
