May 2005 The 765-kilovolt transmission
line has been in the making for the
past 16-years.

A-E-P says the line will increase
the electricity available to customers
from Wyoming County, West Virginia to
Jacksons Ferry, Virginia.

The line will go live by the end
of June.

Today's ceremony will close what
the U-S Department of Energy has called

Trilby Lundberg says a check of
the nation's gas stations found prices
were up nearly four-cents in the past
two weeks, compared to 25 cents before
that.

And cities including Houston,
Chicago, Atlanta and Omaha- actually
had lower prices.

Lundberg attributes the slower
pace to the fact crude oil prices have
slipped, refiners have brought back
some of their capacity and demand
hasn't grown.

Recent studies indicate Ambien is

100 cases.. that s up from 86 last

week.

The outbreak prompted eye care company
Bausch and Lomb to recall its Renu with
Moisture-Loc contact lens solution.

A high percentage of the people with
the infection used that solution.. but
the C-D-C says it s too early to say
whether a single product is responsible
for the outbreak.

The sleep drug Ambien is in the
spotlight following Congressman Patrick
Kennedy s car accident.

He said he had taken Ambien and an
anti-nausea drug prior to crashing his
car last Thursday

The incident has intensified
questioning about whether the drug
causes side-effects like sleepwalking.

Recent studies indicate Ambien is
regularly cited as a factor in traffic
arrests, with some states putting it
among the top 10 drugs most frequently
found in impaired drivers.

(wipevo)

Data from six new studies suggests men
who drink a lot of tap water may have a
slightly higher chance of getting
bladder cancer.

Investigators observed that the risk of
cancer was 50 percent higher in men who
drank more than two liters of tap water
per day compared with those who drank a
half-liter or less.

Results among women were less
consistent.

OQ=News7, Roanoke. <<

Since the early 90's The Local
Colors Festival has strived to become a
staple in Roanoke.

Ever since it's humble beginnings
on the City Market, there has been one
woman that has become synonomous with
celebrating the Star City's diverse and
multi-cultural population.

Pearl Fu.

INQ= @00:05:04

I THINK ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND THE
CULTURES AND TRADITIONS OF PEOPLE THAT
JUST OPENS UP A WHOLE NEW WORLD TO YOU.
AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE SAID THAT LOCAL
COLORS REALLY HAS HELPED OPEN THERE
HEARTS AND MINDS.

RUN:13 (END SOT)

OQ= You can find Pearl at just about

ANY function in Roanoke, and typically
you'll find her with a smile on her
face, while she spreads the word about
the Local Colors Festival.

PEARL:THIS WILL BE OUR 16TH YEAR CAN
YOU IMAGINE THAT. YOU KNOW WE STARTED
WITH ONLY FOUR COUNTRIES NOW THERE IS
MORE THAN 80 COUNTRIES INVOLVED.

JEREMY:AS THE NUMBER OF COUNTRIES
PARTICIPATING IN THE LOCAL COLORS
FESTIVAL CONTINUES TO GROW SO DOES THE
CORWD. THAT'S WHY THE FESTIVAL MOVED
FROM THE CITY MARKET LAST YEAR, AND
THAT IS WHERE IT WILL STAY THIS YEAR.

INQ= @00:09:30

IT WORKED PERFECTLY FOR THAT, IT WAS
PERFECT SETTING FOR THAT AND THAT IS
WHY WE THINK THIS YEAR IT WILL BE EVEN
BIGGER AND BETTER.

RUN:08 (END SOT)

OQ= Getting a bigger crowd to show up

is one thing, but having more countries
represented at the Festival is quite
another.

So what's Pearl's secret?

SOT FULL SOT FULL

INQ= @00:08:12

I WOULD STAND ON THE STREET CORNERS OF
THE MARKET PLACE AND GO INTO THE KROGER
GROCERY STORES AND WATCH FOR FACES AND
LISTEN FOR ACCENTS AND THEN I WOULD RUN
UP AND TAP THEM ON THE SHOULDER AND SAY
EXCUSE ME WHAT COUNTRY ARE YOU FROM.

RUN:14 (END SOT)

OQ= This Saturday Korea will be well

represented at the festival. Pearl says
that's in honor of the 40th anniversary
of Roanoke's first sister city in Wonju
Korea.

Rising gas prices may have
slowed.. at least for now.

A recent survey showed gas prices
were up nearly four cents in the past
two weeks,

But relief may be in sight
because crude oil prices have slipped,
refiners have brought back some of
their capacity and demand hasn't grown.

Students across the Virginia Tech

prepared to pull out of Blacksburg.

For many, what's leftover, ends
up in the dumpsters.

That's why the YMCA has set up
Y-Toss collection points on campus
where students have the option to
donate those items.
