news that's sure to get your attention.

Virginia Tech athletic director
Jim Weaver announced this afternoon
that the Hokies have reached an
agreement on a two games series in
football with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

1996 Orange Bowl 10 years ago the two teams met in
the 1996 Orange Bowl at what was then
Pro Player Stadium.

Now they will play in Lincoln,
Nebraska on September 20th of 2008 and
then return to Blacksburg the following
year for a September 19th meeting at

Lane Stadium.

The meeting 10 years ago a star
studded affair with Grant Wistrom,
Ahman Green, Jim Druckenmiller and
Marcus Parker all making their marks.

afternoon, it was the first round of
the A-C-C Tournament and right out of
the box the Hokies and Cavaliers
matched up. Virginia Tech came in as
the 3 seed and sent A-C-C Player of the
year Angela Tincher to the mound. But
U-V-A the 6 seed pulled the upset,
winning 3 to nothing. The Hokies play
again tonight at 8 o'clock in an
elimination game against Maryland.

Radford is hosting the Big South
tourney on campus and the Highlanders
lead Charleston Southern 6-to-0 in the
fourth in a rain that was delayed
sevedral hours by rain.

The Roanoke College women were
supposed to play at four this
afternooon at the Moyer complex in the

NCAA division three opening round, but
rain also has delayed the start of that
game.

coaches. He is second in scoring for
the 2nd ranked Maroons withs 26 goals
and 30 assists.

He is joined on the ODAC First

The Maroons open up N-C-A-A
Tournament Play this weekend at home

against Cabrini College with game time
set for 1 at Alumni Field.

time has passed away at the age of 71.

Floyd Patterson died at his home
in New Paltz, New York after an eight
year battle with Alzheimer's disease
and prostate cancer

during his days as a trainer - emerged
from a troubled childhood in Brooklyn
to win the Olympic middleweight
championship in 1952.

In 1956, as an undersized
heavyweight he became the youngest man
to win the title with a fifth-round
knockout of Archie Moore.

But for all of his success and 55
career wins - he was haunted by his
failures - losing to Ingemar Johansson
and later to Sonny Liston.

He was so humiliated when he lost
the title to Liston on a first-round

knockout in 1962 that he left Comiskey
Park in Chicago wearing dark glasses
and a fake beard.

Floyd Patterson was 71 years old
and member of the Boxing Hall of Fame.

the federal government more than one
cent to make a penny.

The U-S mint is spending one-point
two three cents to produce a penny.

The cost of making the coin has
increased 27 percent in the last year
due to higher prices for copper, zinc
and nickel.


By the way, it also costs more to
make a nickel. The mint is spending
almost six cents to make the five cent
piece.
