a shooting.
Police say a man was shot
just after five o-clock yesterday
afternoon in the 800-block of Hanover
Avenue.
He was taken to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital, but his condition is
not known.

the man's name because family members
have not been notified.

investigating what they call a
suspicious death.
Officers say two men brought
43-year-old Shelby Darlene Reagan of
Halifax to Martinsville Memorial
Hospital Tuesday night... and then
left.
Hospital workers could not
revive her and she died early yesterday
morning.
Police and the medical
examiner's office are now trying to
figure out what happened.

EDUCATION 7 ANIMATION County are shedding new light on an old
energy source.

Solar race cars, a solar water
heater, and even a solar oven are just
some of the things students are working
on at the Gereau Jah-row Center for
Applied Technology and Career
Exploration.
The projects are part of an
energy efficient program that two of
the school's teachers launched four
years ago.
And the program isn't just a
learning experience for the kids.
The school also acts as a
resource for homeowners, architects,
and others interested in alternative
energies.

To help prepare for the annual
fundraiser Tugs for Tots, the reigning
champs, the Roanoke Sheriff's office,
practiced their tugging against Asha.
Of course, they had to
butter her up a little bit before the
contest.
But it turned out to be no
contest...Asha a gracious winner, bowed
and shook hands after the match.
The event is put on by Chip of
Roanoke Valley and all the proceeds go
to helping children get healthcare they
other wise wouldn't receive.
It's this tomorrow at Noon at

School yesterday, when their pickup
collided with a small truck.
State Police say the students'
vehicle was traveling on the wrong side

double murder suspect in Grayson
County.
At midnight last night, a trooper
stopped to check on a motorist along
Route 21.
The trooper discovered the car
was reported stolen and the driver,
Deborah Fuller from Newark, Delaware,
was a suspect in a murder
Fuller is accused of killing her
mother and step sister in a town near
Princeton, West Virginia.
She's being held at the N-R-V
jail without bond.

GRAPHIC=Gay Marriage A proposed amendment defining
marriage will be on the ballot this
November in Virginia.
But, there's a battle over how to
explain it to voters.

February 2004 The measure would
constitutionally ban gay marriage in
Virginia, but opponents say it does
much more.
They're upset about a "statement
of explanation" passed by a House
committee yesterday.
It says the amendment would NOT
affect the rights of unmarried people
to own property together, make end- of
life decisions or seek protection under
state's domestic violence laws.
The explanation was approved by
Attorney General Bob McDonnell, who
supports the marriage amendment.
Opponents believe he shouldn't be
involved since he's not a neutral
party.

GRAPHIC=Roanoke Civic Center Major changes are under way at
the Roanoke Civic Center.

Construction is in full swing on
the new 14 million dollar exhibit hall.
When it's finished early next
year, the Civic Center will have four
times the exhibit space it has now.
As a result, the city is hoping
to bring larger events to the area.

what the expansion will look like when
it's finished.
Currently, the project is on
time and is expected to open by March.
