brother-in-law's home early this
morning.

When police got to the 21- hundred
block of Holley Road- they found
31-year-old Mark Byron Crockett of
Roanoke had been shot.
An acquaintance was in the process
of taking him to the hospital when
officers got there and EMS crews took
over.

Crockett said an unknown man had
beat him with a gun and then shot him.

Valley View Mall. But they weren't
looking for lingerie, according to
police- employees reported money was
taken but no merchandise.
About an hour later, police say
Jaclyn's Hallmark workers called to
report it looked like someone had
gotten into their store as well. But no
money and no merchandise was taken
there.
The break-ins happened between the
time workers left Sunday night and
returned Monday morning.
There were no reports of injuries
and so far, no arrests.

Basketball Championship back in 1994.
The Spartans are hoping to return to
that level by selecting a key component
off that team to be the next head coach
replacing Grant Smythers.
This afternoon School
superintendent Wayne Tripp said he has
recommended that

VO-NAT former Salem and Hampden-Sydney
star Kevin Garst be appointed as the
new coach of the Spartans.
It should become official on
Tuesday of next week when the school
board meets and they are expected to
approve Garst as the man to lead his
alma mater.
Garst was a starter on that '94
state championship team he then took
his game to Hampden Sydney where he
earned his bachelors degree. Garst
went on to earn a Masters from Virginia
Tech.
For the past two years he's been
an assistant coach at Hampden-Sydney
before that he was an assistant to
Billy Hicks at Cave Spring.

criss-crossed the country visiting
Brethren congregations.
This morning -he left Camp Bethel
in Botetourt County to continue his
voyage.
Vermilyea has covered more than
19 thousand miles.
His odyssey will come to end next
month in West Virginia.
