VO NAT 52 year old Barry Brooks was indicted
this afternoon

on three charges of embezzlement.

Brooks has been with the sheriff's
department for nearly for 30 years and
served as a member of the Alleghany
Highlands Task Force.

The investigation was led by state
police, initiated in late October/early
November of last year when state police
realized money was missing. No drugs -
just money.

State police wouldn't tell us how much
but would tell us the embezzling has
been going on since '99.
