neighborhood tried to sort out what had
happened just hours earlier.
Roanoke City Police say around
2:30 in the morning officers heard
multiple gunshots coming from a crowded
party at this house.

for the second police officer killed in
last week's police station ambush in
Fairfax County.

injuries sustained while sitting in his
patrol car.
This morning he was laid to rest.
18-year-old Michael Kennedy
opened fire on the Chantilly police
station -- during a shift change on May
8th.
Officer Garbarino was hit five
times in the attack.
Detective Vicky Armel was also
killed.
They are the first two Fairfax
County officers to be shot and killed
in the line of duty.

public safety director.
Officials announced Daryl Hatcher
of Henry County will take over the
position effective Monday.
Hatcher has nearly 20-years of
experience as a game warden with the
Department of Game and Inland
Fisheries.
He's also the former captain of
the Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad,
and has worked with the Moneta Rescue
Squad and Smith Mountain Lake fire
department.
Hatcher replaces Chris Slemp, who
resigned in March.

severe today and temperatures were
nearly perfect at the Roanoke Country
Club.

Neuhauser had to scramble to save par
at the 18th. Neuhauser is at even par
after a round of 70, that's two shots
off the pace set by Christine Song.

would tap that in for par and a 72, and
leads for the second straight day.
As for the older boys, first
round leader Josh Jones is one over on
the day still on the course. Jones is
4-under overall.
Peter Uihlein grabbed the
lead at 5-under par. He finished at
4-under after a 2nd straight 69.

The Robertson has become a
popular stop for college coaches on the
recruiting trail in recent years.
Drew Scott is the head men's
golf coach at Rice University in
Houston, Texas. Scott is also a Scott
Robertson alum, playing in the event in
1992 and 1993. He finished second one
year and third in the other. Scott is
taking a walk down memory lane in his
search for players.

week by rain, but it was worth the wait
for Sam Hornish.

lost 9 to 1 to Tennessee in the
Knoxville Regional of the NCAA
Tournament this afternoon. Angela
Tincher pitched 2 and two thirds
innings, giving up five hits and 6
earned runs, while walking four. The
Hokies will face the Tennessee
Tech/Louisville winner tonight at 6:30
in an elimination contest.

Support Center organized the day to
give the women a break from being a
full-time single parent.
With their sons, and husbands
serving in Iraq over the last year --
the mothers were glad to hand over the
kids, and take some time for

afternoon was the much anticipated
return of their soldiers.
