releasing few details about a fatal
shooting early this morning.

It happend on the 1600
block of Melrose Avenue.

The identity of the victim hasn't
been released.

Authorities say a fight broke out
around the same time and they arrested
one person.

They will not confirm, if the two
incidents are related.

Several other people were
injured.

determine what caused a fatal accident
in Franklin County.

A homeowner along Route 116 in
Franklin County found some damage to
their property yesterday morning.

When state troopers came to
investigate -- they found a car

overturned in a creekbed and two people
dead.

as 42-year-old Jeffrey Byron Stiff and
25-year-old Suzann Nicole Morgan, both
from Roanoke.

Police haven't found any
witnesses, but they believe the

Lynchburg yesterday turned out to be a
domestic situation.

Police say a Concord man shot
his girlfriend.

It happened around 6:30 yesterday
morning at American Hofman Corporation.


40- year- old Stacy Bartley was
shot once below her left eye. She was
taken to the U-V-A medical center,
where a condition report indicates her
vital signs are stable.

Police identified the suspect as
57- year- old Donnie Beverley, of
Concord. He's been charged with
malicious wounding and possession of a
firearm by a convicted felon.

Traffic controllers were on high
alert yesterday at

VO NAT Albuquerque International
Airport, after microbursts made it
dangerous for planes to land or take
off. A few days ago, the strong,
downward push of air flipped a Cessna
attempting to take-off.

Microbursts are common out west
this time of year, but are rarely
frequent enough to delay air traffic.

VO NAT It's wasn't a microburst, but
straight-line winds that caused
extensive damage in Kentucky this week.

A storm packing winds of up to
80mph rolled through Campbellsville
damaging homes and businesses. Three

people had to be rescued from a movie
store and several others were injured
at a fast food restaurant next-door.

Tornadoes are often blamed for
damage actually caused by straight-line
winds. A trained observer will need to
examine the debris path to make a final
call.

details about a fatal shooting early
this morning.

It happend on the 1600
block of Melrose Avenue.

The identity of the victim hasn't
been released.

Authorities say a fight broke out
around the same time and they arrested
one person.

They will not confirm, if the two

incidents are related.

Several other people were
injured.

fellow deputies to fish the Brackman
Cup out of a pond. But today coworkers
are fishing for answers....especially
Sheriff Dale Muterspaugh.

*Sheriff barry and i have worked
together for 29 years, a good officer,
dedicated officer....

In addition to working his way through
the ranks of the Sheriff's Department,
Brooks also served on the Alleghany
Highlands Drug Task Force.

*barry had resigned himself in october
of last year because he wanted to see
someone else get on board, because he
was looking to retire this year, he
would have 30 years of service
together.

The following month, state police
initiated the investigation when they
realized money was missing, no drugs,
just money. And that it had been going
on since 1999.

first one i've picked up, it's not a

Sheriff....surprised and upset, but at
the same time anytime there's an
investigation done, i realize it's need

to be done, that's what police agency
do

A special grand jury has been impaneled
to investigate this case, it's
important to note the investigation is
solely into Brooks, not the department.
Brooks has been placed on

yesterday.

They say city council's vote to
demolish the stadium was inconsistent

with deed restrictions that were placed

possible loss of tax credits and the
