determine whether the six dead family

Peter Cordingley/World Health

of a known animal source we have to
treat this as possibly human to human
transmission of the virus."

Most of the time avian flu is spread by
poultry....so even the possibility of a
human to human spread...is certain to
raise concerns of a possible future

worldwide outbreak.

Dr. Stephen Baum/Infectious Disease
Expert "It's not necessarily true that
person to person spread equals a
pandemic, but it certainly is a
necessary step to find us in a
pandemic."

Drew Levinson/CBS New: DOCTORS FROM THE
UNITED NATIONS AGENCY, W-H-O, ARE NOT
RAISING THE LEVEL OF PANDEMIC ALERT.
THAT'S BECAUSE THIS OUTBREAK SEEMS
CONTAINED WITHIN THE SAME FAMILY AND
THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF IT SPREADING
ANYWHERE ELSE.

But some experts believe the spread of
bird flu to this country is
inevitable...even within a year.

Baum: "it's quite probable that some
bird , not needing a VISA or a
passport, will land in the U-S and
bring avian flu with it."

In the long run, Dr. Baum
believes...human to human spread will
occur. His advice to the
government:.... spend less money trying
to stop the outbreak...and more money
on developing an effective vaccine.

Kenseth have been solid, and Greg
Biffle has come on strong the past two
weeks, but Carl Edwards and Jamie
McMurray have struggled mightily.

GRAPHIC=BAM Finally tonight - we regret to

report that the fundraiser featured CBS
Broadcaster James Brown - the new host
of the NFL Today has been cancelled.

ENG#=2 VO-NAT

VO-NAT Brown was scheduled to be at the

Hotel Roanoke tomorrow night to support
Hunter Ozmer a young woman from Roanoke
County who suffers from the very rare
Niemann Pick disease.

Unfortunately, Brown's mother is
very, very ill and could pass away at
any moment.

The event's organizer Hunt Ozmer
says he hopes to reschedule the event,
and that he appreciates all of the
support and understanding people in the
valley have shown his family concerning
his daughter's illness and this

cancellation.

the hour - we'll have an update on the
Western Virginia Education Classic.

Most figured it was dying along
with Victory Stadium - but it appears
that actually it may be growing.

We'll explain tonight on News 7
at Six.

Take care everybody - Jean will
be back in a moment to wrap up this
edition of News 7 at 5.

His name is Bonny Jain, and he
was one of 10 students to reach the
finals of the National Geographic Bee.

So here's winning the question:
Name the mountains that extend across
much of Wales, from the Irish Sea to
the Bristol Channel.

I'm sure you just momentarily
forgot the answer: the Cambrian
(Cahm-brian) Mountains.
