The man charged with firing the
fatal weekend gunshot in Roanoke went
to court today in a wheelchair.

Twenty-five -year-old Jason
Donnell Roberson is recovering from
gunshot wounds himself.
Police say he is one of the seven
people wounded in a hail of gunfire
early Saturday morning, gunfire that
took the life of 22 year old "T.J."
Thompson.
Roberson is charged with firing
the fatal shot.
He turned himself in last night
and was arraigned this morning.
Roberson's court appearance was
hardly his first experience in the
judicial system.
Records show he has ten prior
convictions in the last six years - not
counting numerous bench warrants for
failure to appear in court.

Tuesday, Roanoke City Police executed
another warrant at 1615 Melrose Avenue.
They were looking for anything to
indicate unregulated gambling and
drinking.

According to court papers- officers
didn't have to search long.
On the wall they found a sign with an
alcoholic beverage stating: "Now Open
on Sundays, card players needed, spades
and much more, through Mother's Day."
Officers also found a large amount of
alcohol in a nearby refrigerator.

Plus, police have revealed they've
recovered a 38-caliber and 2- 9mm
handguns from the house the morning of
the shooting. They also say they
recovered 15-shell casing, 3-bullets,
multiple items of clothing and blood

But now the annual game that has
raised over $100 thousand dollars for
Total Action Against Poverty's program
to get dropouts back in school is back
in business with not one, but two games
this fall.
One at LIberty University and
another at Ferrum.

The game in Lynchburg featuring
Liberty University will take place
under the lights on Thursday night -
August 31st as part of the Labor Day
weekend festivities.
Liberty University will give part
of each ticket that is sold to the
cause.
Plus, later in the fall on
September 23rd at one pm - Ferrum will
welcome the WVEC to Adams Stadium as
the Panthers host Shenandoah on Family
weekend.
The change in venue will not only
keep the cause alive that so far has
put over 400 would be dropouts back in
school, but it also will give fans a
chance to take in games at colleges
they may not otherwise visit.
