Twenty-five -year-old Jason
Donnell Roberson is recovering from
gunshot wounds himself.

Police say he is one of the seven
people wounded in a hail of gunfire
early Saturday morning, gunfire that
took the life of 22 year old "T.J."
Thompson.

Roberson is charged with firing
the fatal shot.

He turned himself in Tuesday
night and was arraigned yesterday
morning.

Roberson's court appearance was
hardly his first experience in the
judicial system.

Records show he has ten prior
convictions in the last six years - not
counting numerous bench warrants for
failure to appear in court.

Tuesday Tuesday, Roanoke City Police
executed another warrant at 1615
Melrose Avenue.

They were looking for anything to
indicate unregulated gambling and
drinking.

According to court papers-
officers didn't have to search long.

On the wall they found a sign
with an alcoholic beverage stating:
"Now Open on Sundays, card players
needed, spades and much more, through
Mother's Day."

Officers also found a large
amount of alcohol in a nearby
refrigerator.

Investigators think the home was

Roberson is charged with firing

Here's a look at today's top stories.

Pentagon officials have rejected
Virginia Beach's plan to reduce
development near Oceana Naval Air
Station.

The defense department claims the
plan to stop or roll back development
near Oceana is not in compliance with
the Base Realignment and Closure
Commission.

File Tape Last summer, when the A-B-C board
investigated Mango's Bar and Grill for
alcohol violations, the lead agent,
Mark Scott, said he advised the
restaurant to no longer allow the band,
The Worx, to play there, because it
"draws the wrong crowd and entices
alcohol consumption."

Scott's comments were HIS opinion, and

was at the center of controversy for
Mango's.

Franklin County recently passed a
countywide noise ordinance, after
complaints from residents about the
restaurant's live entertaintment.

Virginia's elementary and middle school
students got the best scores in the U-S

Results show 80- percent of
fourth graders and nearly 70- percent
of eighth graders grasp the basics of
science.
