GRAPHIC=Boating Safety With the Memorial Day Weekend

officially underway, many hope Smith
Mountain Lake will be a safer place
than it was last summer.

ENG#=1 VO-NAT

VO-NAT No one will soon forget the boating

accident that took the life of a
popular Moneta couple.

Last August, Lawrence and Judith
Lewis were killed instantly when a
speedboat crashed onto their cabin
cruiser.

Authorities say the driver of the
speedboat was drunk.

Since that time, a number of meetings
were held in which residents demanded
action.
