GRAPHIC=Murder Invest. Despite having a suspect in
custody, the investigation into a
weekend murder continues in Roanoke.

VO-NAT 22-year-old TJ Thompson was
killed and seven other people were
wounded during the shooting early
Saturday morning.
Now search warrants show police
have retrieved what appeared to be
two-blood samples from a 2001 red
explorer- where one of the victims was
found.
Another warrant shows police went
back inside the house that has been
called a "Nip Joint."
Officers retrieved seven bullets
during this most recent sweep.
Police are also looking for
another gun which an informant says was
thrown into a neighboring yard.

FOUR-life terms plus 73-years in prison
for the death of a Roanoke convenience
store owner.

VO-NAT Yesterday, 44-year-old Gary
Pritchard, the second -pleaded guilty
to 14-charges in connection to the
November shooting death of 59-year-old
Awad "Howard" Kawa.
According to court testimony-
Pritchard had been drinking and using
drugs all night when he decided he
needed money.
That's when he went to Amelio's
Market and shot Kawa during a holdup.
One former employee says she's
glad justice was served, but it's still
hard to understand *why* Pritchard did
what he did.

state's budget impasse could come to an
end.

Now that the Senate has taken tax
increases out of the budget, House
leaders believe the negotiation process
will speed up.
Once a compromise is reached
though, House Democrats fear talks

consider Senate proposals to raise
taxes for transportation, but only
AFTER the state's two- year budget is
approved.

transplant 20 years ago from the

King's daughter died of an
aneurism.

is holding a special meeting next
Tuesday.
But board members aren't saying
why.

Now a Christian rock band with
local roots is about to release their
first album nationwide.

Radio signed a deal with Slanted
Records, and soon their album will be
out in stores like Target, Best Buy and
Wal-Mart.
Two of the four guys in the band
grew up in Montgomery County, and the
group uses southwestern Virginia as a

the country playing at popular
festivals, churches and camps.

deputy and a woman from Boones Mill
collided on Route 220.

State Police say 67-year-old
Murial Bennett pulled out in front of
68-year-old Deputy Bob Eames EEMS
yesterday morning.
Eames couldn't stop. He hit
Bennett's car on the driver's side.
At last report, Bennett was in
critical condition.
There were also two passengers in
her car.
42-year-old Linwood Dodd was
treated and released.
52-year-old Darlene McGuire is in
good condition.
Deputy Eames was also taken to
the hospital where he is in good
condition.
Police say charges are pending.

ride stopped in Montvale for a visit
with a few hundred elementary school
children.
The kids ate lunch with the
veterans and put on a program of
patriotic songs and speeches.
The vets say it's a much different

A development group has given the
Campbell Garage a makeover, turning it
into 15 apartments, ranging in size
from 600 and 1400 square feet and
155-290 thousand dollars in price.
Nine apartments are already
under contract, leaving six for grabs.
The new owners tell us the deal
breaker wasn't just the location, it
was also the more industrial look,
including stainless steel appliances
and copper balconies.
