Also today-- the C-I-A has a new
leader.

By a vote of 78 to 15, the Senate
confirmed General Michael Hayden as
head of the agency.

The approval came after senators
heard assurances that Hayden would be
independent of the Pentagon.

He'll be the first active duty or
retired military officer to run the spy
agency in 25 years.

Nationwide, more than 37- million

That's up less than one percent from

that's a sign that higher gas prices
are keeping some people at home.

"To watch that potential and that

a tow truck was heartbreaking. "

G.M. SAYS IT SPENT OVER A BILLION
DOLLARS DEVELOPING THE EV-1-TECHNOLOGY

THAT PUT THEM FAR AHEAD OF THE
AUTOMOTIVE PACK.

BUT AT A TIME WHEN GAS WAS AROUND
$1.30 A GALLON, THE AUTOMAKER CLAIMED

CONSUMERS JUST WERENT INTERESTED IN THE

THEY SAID THEY COULD ONLY FIND 800

TO KEEP THEM ON THE ROAD BUT

LOYAL EV-1 DRIVERS FELT IT WAS POLITICS

-SOT-PETER HORTON,

They lost faith in the idea of an
electric car, if they ever had it.

GM HAS NO PLAN TO BRING THE EV-1 BACK

GIVEN THE PRICE OF GAS THESE DAYS,
PERHAPS IT WAS JUST A LITTLE AHEAD OF

ITS TIME.
