Director Randy Meck was abruptly fired
yesterday.

30th.
Yesterday's firing means he is
finished at the district, effective
immediately.
Reached by phone yesterday afternoon,
Meck said he had no comment.
He'd been picked to be Assistant
Director of Student Activities at
Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria.
However, he has yet to be formally
offered the position in Northern
Virginia.

the Black Diamond Ranch until Monday.
Opponents of the plan worried
about developing the 16-hundred acres
to make way for 103-single family homes

of the region, opponents also worried
that part of this low- lying parcel is
in a floodplan.
The board also decided to
continue its funding of the library.
Three-thousand dollars have been

alone, but they haven't released any
additional suspects names. Witnesses
say three or four people may have
been involved. As for a motive, police

A neighbor was watching when one victim
returned home.

Last night in Washington, Katherine
Close became the first female champion
of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in
seven years.
This was Katherine's fifth appearance
in the spelling bee.
The experience and hard work paid
off.
